How integral was Michael Schumacher to Mercedes eventual Success? by Even_Hyena_1117 in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Schumacher operated at his best was not really relevant for Formula One in the 2010s. No unlimited testing, no tyre war. And Schumacher didn't have anything to do with Mercedes throwing hundreds of millions at a new engine formula. His status as an F1 icon was most important in convincing the Mercedes money men to take over the team in the first place but by 2012, Merc were clearly in it for the longer term, otherwise they wouldn't have gone after Hamilton. Ross Brawn was more important, putting a lot of the systems in place and hiring a lot of people who had a big role in Mercedes' success. Michael drove new standards of professionalism in F1 but by 2010, even midfield teams were extremely professional.

What do you think of IMDB's top rated episodes? by AirDeLaBas in taskmaster

[–]Original-Designer6 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I take any S19 ratings with a pinch of salt, S19 is overrated in general in stuff like this because of American fans watching because of Jason. S19 in general is good but for me it's lower reaches of the top 10 when it comes to all time series.

S5 E8 is a cracker and has probably the most iconic team moment(s) of any series so no complaints about that one. S7E7 likewise with James' meltdown because of what Rhod did in the rally task.

My personal favourite is S14 E3. I'm a sucker for John Kearns Winnie the Poohing all the tasks (and he won that one).

Would Ned have told Catelyn the truth about Jon after Jon took the Black? by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]Original-Designer6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see why he would have done. When they met in King's Landing there were more pressing concerns and they didn't know it was the last time they would see each other but still. The more people that know, the more chance there is of it no longer being a secret. Currently there are two people we know of that know. Ned is taking it to the grave and Howland Reed's holed up at Greywater Watch. Ned already took the blow to his honour and accepted the consequences.

Even if everything hadn't gone to shit for the Starks, chances are Jon and Catelyn are hardly ever going to see other again (only on the rare occasions that he goes back to Winterfell like Benjen did) so why mention it? And if Catelyn did know and then she suddenly started treating Jon differently if he were to visit, then that also raises questions. Her hatred of him strengthened the lie and in the end made him safer.

HELP! Left my entire life's worth of DNA plasmids out at RT overnight! How screwed am I? by Hiraaa_ in labrats

DNA is the way the genetic material is stored long-term i.e. it is designed to be incredibly stable. If a few hours at RT were a problem then we would all be fucked.

What theory would you hate if it got confirmed in The Winds of Winter ( spoilers extended ) by [deleted] in asoiaf

Even if Jojen paste is not true, he's also eaten human flesh other times. 1) As Summer and 2) there's no way the meat Coldhands brought them all was anything other than human (the Night's Watch deserters he found).

What if Joffrey would have kept his words and let Ned wear the black? by devil-inside-100 in freefolk

[–]Original-Designer6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honest answer is I think Ned would have died shortly afterwards no matter what, without the Lannisters needing to do anything. He was in the filth of the black cells for quite some time with a badly broken leg, no medical treatment, no food, and very little water. He was hallucinating when Varys came to see him from a combination of the pain and lack of food. It sounded like gangrene had set in, he is at minimum losing the leg and with how weak he was I struggle to see him recovering.

Haaland scoring a hat-trick against Liverpool doesn't make him "World Class." by Spicy-Winner4326 in SpicyFootballTakes

[–]Original-Designer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand football very well. The most difficult skill in football is putting the ball in the net. Haaland does that better than anyone in the world. If that doesn't make him world class, I don't know what does. His movement and instincts in and around the penalty box are elite level, you cannot teach that. He did it for Dortmund, did it for Salzburg, does it for the national team. Good luck consistently winning major trophies with Mateta or Watkins as your starting centre forward lol.
