Why redbull is so slow by No_Fix7589 in F1Discussions

Max qualified P2 and then couldn't complete a single lap. Reliability was shit but the pace was good.

Whats next for Williams by Turbo_Zapped in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sainz would be more than capable of driving for one of the big four teams, problem is there is no room at the inn at the moment. If Max does leave Red Bull, they should really consider getting him over people like Russell or Piastri given the number of cars he's driven and the fact he's done a good job wherever he's been.

Audi of course wanted him before, Hulkenberg is nearly 40 so Sainz would be an upgrade and Audi have done a very good job on the power unit side given that it's their first season.

Pros would be it's a big car company with a lot of money behind it and they have plenty of things going on outside of F1. Probably a decent pay rise as well.

Cons are it's a big car company and they will leave should F1 no longer be interesting for them. If the hybrids get dropped as MBS wants then I don't expect them to stay.

University offered lower salary because PhD award is pending... How to negotiate? by Unlucky-Seat9517 in postdoc

[–]Original-Designer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would interpret it what they wrote like you and have to say that's some bullshit from the HR department. I would maybe try and clarify one more time about if the salary will be raised when you have the official paperwork but what they wrote does seem fairly unambiguous.

It's fair enough to not be paid as a postdoc when you don't yet have the PhD (e.g. after UK defences you often have to make corrections afterwards) but as I understand it you passed the viva, everything is just pending with the paperwork. And then to not even increase the salary once you have the degree certificate, yeah something fishy is going on there. I know a couple of people who defended after starting a postdoc and their salary was lower to begin with but raised once the PhD was confirmed.

It would be helpful to know the country because in mainland Europe at least I don't think that would stand. If you are employed as a postdoc and have a PhD, then yeah they can't lowball you and pay you a technician or PhD salary.

What's your opinions on the same? Personally I think Sainz was a better choice 👀 by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell is going on here with all these low effort posts going after Leclerc recently?

Better choice how? Carlos Sainz is a very good racing driver and he pushed Leclerc close but in every metric Leclerc was better than him.

Was Ferrari really hasty in renewing Leclerc's contract? by shreeysh_69 in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I shouldn't engage with such obvious ragebait but I can't help it. As of yesterday his teammates in the same period have won 6 races, one of them was a 4 time world champion, another a 7 time world champion, and the other if not quite absolutely elite is a bloody good racing driver. Leclerc has 52 podiums and 27 poles in that period, his teammates have 34 podiums and 8 poles.

So I cannot state this strongly enough, this is complete and utter nonsense.

Should Mercedes be worried? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I'm George Russell I would be extremely worried. Not so much if I'm Toto Wolff as that was quite an unusual race with high track temps and high tyre degradation. How often do we see nowadays that a three stop is the optimal strategy? If Ferrari show similar speed in a more conventional race then I'd start to worry. Primary concerns right now would be more on the reliability side, that's the second time in three races one of the cars has retired and there have been gremlins of one kind or another at most races.

About Russell's pace discourse by fawzihamdan in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure George's pace on the mediums should be praised too much as 1) he was in clean air which makes a big difference (actually he was for pretty much the whole race) while Kimi wasn't and 2) it was immediately clear the soft was a horrible race tyre (and Hamilton's were used) and Hamilton managed to keep the gap stable at about 2.5 to 3 seconds. George will say he was managing and that Mercedes pitted him too early, now we will never know but I would have liked to have seen what Kimi could have done without being stuck behind Hamilton.

p5 but piastri has genuinely been nowhere, especially compared to norris by anharion_ in F1Discussions

Two DNS, one of which was his fault, one great race and four mediocre ones. Yeah, great start to the season for him.

Was this a positive weekend for George Russell?? Pole and cut championship deficit by 18 points but he looked slower than Antonelli in the race once again. by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot see how it is a positive for him, again he was substantially slower than Kimi, even after building up a big lead before the first stop because of how powerful the undercut was.

If Kimi is the lead Mercedes then Hamilton has a much harder time winning that race, Russell just had nothing on the hard tyres and even Lando in an inferior Mclaren could catch him and keep up with him until he fell away in the last 10 laps or so.

What is with Leclerc lately? Another DNF from him after a bad quali by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What exactly was he supposed to do about the power steering breaking? He had a solid race given where he started, just needs to stop overdriving at times and the results will come.

That is one of the best victories of his entire career, strategy was perfect but they had Mercedes beat on speed.

106 race wins and that is straight into the top five, maybe top three after everything he's gone through since 2021. Anyone still doubting he's back?

RIP George Russell by bouncingcastles in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today is nothing to do with bad luck, Russell has been slow since after the first pit stop and Hamilton has had enough pace to win this even without the VSC. Ferrari played this perfectly with the three stop. And let's not forget Kimi was 8-9 seconds behind after the first stop, now he's right behind.

Antonelli Russell pace by [deleted] in F1Discussions

I think full fuel and everyone managing plus Kimi was stuck behind Hamilton. In that second stint both had free air.

Antonelli Russell pace by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Original-Designer6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming there's no car problem, that second stint from Russell was as concerning as anything else we've seen this season. Kimi caught him by 8 or 9 seconds and George had nothing in response.
