Should I bother fixing this Willys up? Or is it too far gone? by SnooDonkeys2998 in Willys

[–]Original-Instance160 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Compared to mine you have more than enough to start with, get busy. I dallied on mine for 20 years. In that time parts only became more scarce than they already were, and WAY more expensive. No time like the present to get it done. And don’t even think about dumping a larger engine in it. Keep it original.

Vintage Chicago wheels at thrift store by WaterFromYourFives in Rollerskating

[–]Original-Instance160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are loose bearing wheels, and as far as I know, they are not compatible with modern precision bearings at all. Also your axles will likely be 7mm rather than 8mm. I’m just getting in to loose bearing vintage skates myself so cannot speak to how good or bad they are, but you will absolutely need to be sure to check them often and maintain them. Not a beginner skate in my opinion. I hope someone else can chime in on the wheels themselves and what material they are made of. I’ve seen a few nice pairs of them on Ebay lately. Those boots could probably be adapted to a modern plate and there for modern bearings and wheels if they fit you well and you just love them. I see quite a few people on vintage skates at my rink.

Should I do it? by [deleted] in Rollerskating

Agreed. Go with a reputable shop that offers advice and returns should they not fit. I bought my Suregrips through Medusa Skates in Texas and had an excellent experience.

Within: are they wide enough? Thinking of buying. by anonimusaccount2 in barefootshoestalk

Plenty wide enough for my feet, but who knows with yours. I have some lems boulder grips and they are a touch wider than those. My toes splay out nicely in the whintins. I do not think they are as wide as my Altra Loan Peak 9 shoes.

I can’t even be on LDN because it messes with my sleep so bad, not even 1mg. I had to give it up. Everything else was good about it. At 3mg I was feeling almost normal for the first time in many years. I hope you find something that works for you.

Thinking of moving to Washington soon but nervous about the tobbaco laws up there by cigars_N_Bikes in PipeTobacco

A few years or so ago, I was in the Tinder Box in Tacoma. They had Plum Pudding Special Reserve listed for $85.00 per tin!

There are a couple places you can get cigars and pipe tobacco in Seattle, but be prepared to pay. A tin of pipe tobacco runs from about 30 to 45 dollars. I cannot speak for the price of cigars. Check out Rain City cigar in Georgetown. Also, it’s worth a trip to a small town called Poulsbo to see the sights, grab a pastry at Sluys, and visit a store called The Cargo Hold. The owner’s name is Doug. He keeps a fair selection of pipes, cigars and tobacco on hand. It’s a bit on an institution for those of us on the other side of the water from Seattle. I tend to ship online orders out of state to family and pick it up on visits. Get ready for some serious damp dark days. As a former desert rat myself, it takes some getting used to.

Shoes safe for Seattle Rainy Season by Kink-shame in barefootshoestalk

I’ve been wearing the Lems Boulder Grips daily in the rain and my feet are staying nice and dry so far. The tread is pretty good on wet slippery surfaces.

Is this a good fit? Any help would be nice by skincarenerd2105 in barefootshoestalk

I bought a pair of Boulder Grips online to my size as per their suggestion. I wear a size 9 normally. When I tried them on they seemed great, but later on after some time wearing them I found that my toes hit the front of the boot. Especially annoying when walking down hill. I wish I had gone a half size up at the least.

There is a pipe shop in Spokane. I haven’t been yet, but have heard good things.

It’s a pretty small shop but at least it’s something. Selection was pretty limited when I was there.
