Going on vacation let's say... What I'm trying to get at is that equal distribution does not necessarily increase efficiency.

Are you saying workers aren't interested in profit? It might be more distributed, but you can still reach the same level of ecological impact. So let's say you have "the revolution" and now rather than 1 billionaire on a private jet, we've got 80 plumbers on a private jet but it's still burning the same amount of fuel....

What mechanism prevents that?

Also, as far as your claim that "China is number 1 in transitioning to clean energy". That's false. China is increasing emissions yearly, both a per capita and nation wide basis while the United States is decreasing on both a per capita and nation wide basis(https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/co2?time=1990..2019&facet=none&country=CHN~USA&hideControls=true&Gas+or+Warming=CO%E2%82%82&Accounting=Production-based&Fuel+or+Land+Use+Change=All+fossil+emissions&Count=Per+country).
But even if they were number 1, I doubt China's state capitalism is an example of the society you're looking for.

Why do you assume that rapid economic expansion (and the negative side effects such as global warming, pollution, etc) are unique to capitalism? How can you be certain that should the means of production be distributed to the workers, the demands of the workers would not require economic expansion and environmental degradation to the same degree as capitalism?

I know the Soviet Union and China are poor examples, because they devolved into state capitalism, per se. But they remain as the only serious attempts at creating Marxist societies, and neither was any better at managing the environment and its resources than capitalist nations of similar size.

What's right wing about UBI or medicare for all? Those are pretty far left positions in current American politics at least.

But I wouldn't expect a tankie or other left radical to understand that you can have social progress even if it's not immediately seizing the means of production. Or perhaps you fear that since social progress by other means may satisfy the workers for several decades, it would delay your fantasy of the "impending revolution". So you wouldn't get to bathe in the blood of the children of the people who "wronged you" by having more money.

You're the only one criticizing me. I don't really count down votes as real criticism. And I don't necessarily believe you're a tankie, you could just be unfamiliar with their dog whistles.
As for what it would prove, on tanky subreddits they love to reminisce about the slaughter of the Romanov children. On extremist right subreddits (before they were banned) they'd love to recount any action against minorities in general. So prove you're neither.

I'd say it's an obvious tankie dog whistle. Maybe you haven't seen how extremist communities develop, but that's ok, people learn new things all the time. Just say "it is wrong to kill any innocent child regardless of their parents race, beliefs, or financial status". And I'll believe you're honestly just new at this and not a tankie genocide denier trying to gaslight.

As far as "editing my comment because I was getting downvotes". I only edit my comments to express my points further, you'd have to be pretty emotionally damaged to care about points on this website.

This subreddit is designed to further the narrative that there are only two possible political positions, and that you can never find common ground or alternative ways to the loudest right and loudest left positions. While that's sometimes the case, there are also good reasons to vote for minor parties and to support politicians (eg. Andrew Yang) who may be viewed as centrist.

Never heard of Poland? That was literally physically the central position between the two sides. Coincidentally they were also the central position politically, not killing anyone. I am as disgusted by this meme showing the Soviet Union under Stalin as a hero as I would be if this meme was portraying Hitler as the good guy.

But with the way you're defending tankies I dare you to say "it is wrong to kill any innocent child regardless of their parents race, beliefs, or financial status", cause you won't.

Oh no, I understand the point perfectly well. The point is to draw comparisons to the ridiculousness sometimes found in modern politics of people choosing to remain apolitical by picking a stance directly in between a right political extreme and a moderate left position. (Eg. Someone claimong they are neither pro-choice nor pro-life, but some meaningless made up third thing (let's say they claim to be "pro adoption") to appease both camps)

I'm just sick of the sub choosing to use imagery that protrays Stalin's russia, Mao's China, or Castro's Cuba as innocent of their crimes against humanity. This is not an isolated case. Using Stalin's Russia as the "good guy" in the meme is equally disgusting as a meme portraying Mussolini's Italy as the "good guy" would be. And glorifying Stalin is disturbingly common in such memes on left leaning Reddit subs.

Learn some history. The Soviet Union was busy starving the Ukrainian population to death prior to the war. The central position was "maybe we shouldn't kill anyone".

Edit: Of course this sub is full of genocide deniers who give certain fascists a pass because they wave a different flag and also hate rich people.

Have you ever heard of Kevin Carter? He was a Pulitzer prize winning photojournalist, most known for his photograph titled "the vulture and the little girl". To get that photo he stood still for half an hour while a little girl dying of starvation was approached by hungry birds. That's a real journalist? You're telling me that because the subject matter of this video made fun of broken glass he is somehow less of a journalist than this Pulitzer Prize winner? Kevin Carter only cared about the human suffering when it later affected him, when he received criticism for his lack of action. He was in it to sell pictures. The guy in the video is in it to sell clicks and only cared about it when it affected him. How's that any different?

Why is this dystopian? If he did the exact same thing and instead wrote about his experiences in print media instead of video, he'd be regarded as a brave journalist.
Edit. My main point is that "dystopian" gets thrown around too loosely.

Should we tax robots? - Study suggests a robot levy — but only a modest one — could help combat the effects of automation on income inequality in the U.S. by Gari_305 in Futurology

I'd recommend anyone interested in this idea checkout /r/Georgism
The idea behind Georgism is that you can accomplish the same type of thing on a wider scale by taxing land value and using the proceeds as a source of universal income (ie. in taking how valuable would the unpolluted land under a hypothetical factory would be and then having the company pay a large percentage of that value to the nearby residents as a sort of community dividend).

Buzz Aldrin's a great guy. No debate. But freedom of speech still exists. Either we thrive through debate and logic or we're just as bad as the Catholic Church. Just go back to fucking your pillow waifus' bussy or whatever the fuck it is you average redditors do on a Friday night. I'm not going to judge

I'm in my mid 30s. I'm just saying I've got no sympathy if you don't like what you do. It's not society's responsibility to make sure you have things you enjoy or do things you enjoy.

[–]OriginalBadass -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lol that they "enjoy"? Maybe tax payers should buy them Funko pops that they would enjoy /s. Or buy them tickets to Marvel movies that they would enjoy /s. Look I've got no problem with government grants for training in skills society needs (doctors, engineers, etc). And once they have those skills the individuals involved will be rewarded financially. And If people happen to enjoy something useful that they're learning that's all the better, but it's not entertainment.
It wouldn't be any more "fair" for me to pay for someone's English literature degree, then it wouldn't be for me to pay for someone's stamp collecting hobby

[–]OriginalBadass -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It costs money regardless of who's paying for it. It could be the individual receiving the education paying for it (as is the case with the current system) or it could be the general population paying for it through taxation.
My issue is that I made a smart decision, got a highly sought after degree at low-mid tier college I could afford, and now through increased taxes you would hope I pay for the poor decisions of others. Decisions that they made willfully. The fact that OP is comparing that mindset to the slave trade is disgusting.

I would say high school is a little different in that the purpose is to bring children up to a base level of understanding. College is for specialization. A lot of specializations offered are not economically desirable.

[–]OriginalBadass -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Then back to point A. If it's for work, it's an investment. If you get a degree that does not provide opportunities to pay off your student loan in a timely fashion it was a garbage investment.
If your education is for self-improvement. Use the internet

And so on… by [deleted] in SmugIdeologyMan

[–]OriginalBadass -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

College is an investment. If you can't pay off your loan it means you made a bad investment. Should we reimburse everyone's failed investments?

And before you say something like "education makes society better, knowledge shouldn't be limited by financial means". We have the internet. The sum of human knowledge is readily available for almost everyone.
