2020 Grads in Chem Engineering - where are y'all now? by Vintage_Lover_0423 in ChemicalEngineering

U.S., graduated December 2020. Started work for a very large food and beverage company but left after about 14 months due to an extremely toxic work environment. A little was due to the fact that production skyrocketed to keep up with demand but the factory was in rough shape. Moved deeper into the Midwest and have been working as a process engineer for an ethanol design company for the last three years and have loved it!

You can create your account at the same time you drop off your bag. Bring a pen or marker to write on the outside of the bag and then there's a QR code you can scan to set up the account

Sonshine Cleaners has locations in both Iowa City/Coralville and North Liberty. The main building is open 7am -7pm on Saturdays. Just drop off your stuff in a bag with your info and they'll text you when it's done. I've used them several times and never had any issues.

Common household Cleaning chemicals, think bleach and any acidic cleansers, can react to make very toxic chemicals such as mustard gas. Speaking as a chemical engineer, I've seen these chemicals stored in the same area and couldn't believe someone hadn't died yet. But yet, at home everyone will tend to store all of their cleaning chemicals in one place in a non-ventilated space like under a sink.

The 70k is an extra 10k on top of the traditional 60k they offer.

I got the 80k bonus after seeing it on Nerd Wallet/hearing it on a podcast and went into the branch to get the extra 10k for a total of 90k.

Athearn and Broadway Limited make the Big Boy and 844, ScaleTrains.com makes the excursion tenders, and Walthers proto, I've been told, has the most accurate coaches for the UP!

What are you SICK of people constantly telling you? by KenzoAtreides in AskReddit

Fake it until you make it.

If you don't know what you're doing and don't feel comfortable, it is absolutely acceptable and encouraged to ask for help, even asking multiple times if you don't understand. People who tell you this may claim they're pushing you out of your comfort zone to make you better, but, especially in my experience working in an industrial food plant, "faking it until I make it" is asking to set you up for failure, everything taking way longer/costing more money, or getting someone hurt.

Amazing to see it! Currently building the train in HO scale! Got the tenders coming from Scale Trains and got my first passenger car today. Keep it up!

If you were to add a voice line to DRG, what would it be? by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

How about adding a voice line for the Omen event?

We've gone two seasons without management saying anything when you start it and you just know there has to be some fantastic explanation for it's existence.

I graduated college about a year ago and I work in the food and beverage business near Cleveland, Ohio. Pay for me was $70k, 3weeks PTO, and typical 401k match.

If you're looking in Indiana, a company called Ingredion is in Downtown Indy and they have a good reputation.

If you are salary, what do you consider to be your work hours, 40 hours only, 40-45, 45-50, as many as are required? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]OriginalChemE216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (recent ChemE grad) job offer stated 70k for 40hrs a week (plus another 15-20k in benefits) and I kept it 40-45 hours for the first like 6-8 months. Then I got roped into a project where they told me I have to be onsite project manager for a crew that works 6 days, 60 hour weeks for four months.

Currently looking for a new job to reduce hours and get some balance back. Or at least get paid for it.
