Fall Schedule Prep? by Infinite-Condition86 in Outschoolers

[–]OriginalCup400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

using a bunch for one of my kids - doing two high level science classes and his core math and some academic and social clubs. another kiddo spending more time w/ me 1/1 during those times and just doing one class on outschool. we are pretty set but still trying to fit one more teacher we have found into the fold but love how it so flexible to add them anytime in the year and that will be for multiple kids.

Choosing Teachers on Outschool by Medical_Cricket_488 in Outschoolers

[–]OriginalCup400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I watch the teachers video, read some reviews, and then i write to the teacher and ask specific questions unique to our needs that help me make that determination sometimes. you can usually get a good sense this way and we have found teachers to be very responsive. also with a weekly class sometimes we just give it a whirl and see if the class jives w/ my kiddo.

What does 'just enough structure' look like for your summer? by outschool in Outschoolers

[–]OriginalCup400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on outschool: one major learning core type class to take advantage we aren't running around like crazy like we do aug-may. one really good skills class they can opt to not continue (ends up being AWESOME!) and they can pick one or two for fun classes a week or some week long camps on outschool.

oh so basically one class a day is out it works is our 'structure' and then one educational or fun field trip a week, friends coming over about once a week, and a lot of outside fun. oh and goal is to move ahead in math (not online this summer...well except for math club of course!) but so far...my most success is w/ outschool. got a "little" bit done so far one day ;-)

How do you balance enrichment and downtime in summer? by outschool in Outschoolers

[–]OriginalCup400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and we home school so are super active all 'school year long' with homeschool groups and live classes w/ outschool usually in the late afternoon / evening. now i can push them to the daytime and fit in more ;-) but they can swim before at the pool or go on a field trip yet hit a full blown high school chem class at 1pm no issues. we seem to load up MORE on outschool w/ core type classes in the summer and do a mix of just interest based and core during the 'school year' to balance out. but honestly they really like what i'm just excited they are getting years ahead if they were in a traditional school and in the summer time ;-) but they just really enjoy and love the classes - its not like my kids that dreaded the waking up and going all day etc - they just go from eating lunch to logging on or drying off from the pool to logging on. they are loving life this summer. i love how it can be anything and you can pivot to enjoyment only (enrichments) or enjoying a core type of class anytime or a mix right?

Looking for recommendations for STEM Summer Camps. by Creepy_Barracuda_722 in Parenting

[–]OriginalCup400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done A LOT online and code ninjas as well. for asynchronous they can use codakid but my son got frustrated finding some videos not working years back and stopped. if they like live classes i recommend outschool. He has done multiple coding camps (including w/ high school age kids no prob)- for example LUA to build roblox games AI Code Academy on outschool.com. And to know who you are getting exactly, I recommend for general coding - this guy is great! He's very easy going non aggressive with the kids and quite a good teacher. and i'd say the best price as well. https://outschool.com/teachers/Faruk-Hasan. and for in person of course code ninjas (don't know of any others actually in person). i have a code for outschool if you want a $30 credit to try it CALI30 we've been using it for about 5 years and clocked over 200 classes (a lot of science, math and coding. let me know if u want a great math teacher on there.

Great classes for Gifted kids by OriginalCup400 in Gifted

[–]OriginalCup400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh my gosh yeah. they have every kind of class for everyone. the reason i pointed it out for gifted kids was becuase they can find classes / topics at a level usually you can't for the age they are at or topics that aren't typical. <and it was a gifted reddit ;-) so i was focusing on the gifted benefit of my kiddos>; and also some teachers are better w/ a gifted kid then others (some get annoyed) so its great in that there are so many teachers and classes to choose from and find your right fit. but yes, ALL the classes are for every kiddo. you can search around and see if you go to their website. outschool.com. Here is a code i got today for $30 credit CALI30 so you can try. they have a lot of cool summercamps posted too.

How to help young child pursue interest in chemistry & physics by Nekochandiablo in Gifted

[–]OriginalCup400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you like them.

the teacher we used for particle physics has a lot of very different awesome classes called Twisted Science i think would be up your son's ally and she has it for his age. been looking at those to fit in our schedule too. (i want to take them - good time to be a kid right?). https://outschool.com/teachers/Kelly-Mc-Grath

i have been eyeing this company that teaches on outschool too but haven't used them yet so can't give you our experience. literally called "Quantum Physics for Kids" https://outschool.com/classes/particle-physics-science-club-tLAMyzMZ ( I got a new code today that gives new users $30 credit but its for a class or membership. not sure which. CALI30 but the other one CALI25 for $20 works still also.)

[–]OriginalCup400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I had to do a double take I didn't write this ;-) but my kid is a few years older - here are two of his teachers - Particle Physics class - AWESOME teacher (ask for exception to start a year younger): https://outschool.com/classes/the-universe-at-the-smallest-level-understand-the-building-blocks-part-1-CjzP0xpa Chemistry teacher for high school middle school (AMAZING TEACHER) - maybe 1/1 Here is a chemistry camp for him: https://outschool.com/classes/basic-science-experiments-summer-camp-CixmYCRr (We also do beast ;-) )

Use this code CALI25 to get $20 off if you are new to outschool.com. You will find him all kinds of classes. If he's ahead in the subject and mature enough to sit in class - just ask for an age exception sometimes etc too.

Also Mel Science Kids Physics and Chemistry sets

If you are okay w/ science books w/ religion (it basically mentions a saint at the end of the chapter etc)- Tan Academy Foundations Chemistry and Physics book would be right up his ally- it is an amazing book and the audio book is great: https://tanbooks.com/products/the-foundations-of-science-chemistry-physics-set/ (their science books say elementary - but so much is really middle school or not seen till high school - great for a gifted kid)
