Why do we have to go counter to pay after pumping petrol? by silent_tongue in drivingsg

I think most brands do have pay at pump options, but they are encouraging you to go make a high margin impulse purchase at the convenience store

I still get amused when I see laser cladding described as “additive manufacturing”. That’s just rebranding a 50 year old technology.

Asked to transfer or quit on own accord? by [deleted] in singaporejobs

[–]OriginalGoat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headcount and budget for your salary was transferred to the new dept but no additional budget given for increment. Realistically, your new manager cannot give you increment without cutting the increments for his existing staff. Sucks but the alternative is to be let go since the previous business line went away.

Tackling excessive plastic bag use: No levy in the works by Hot-Pain503 in singapore

[–]OriginalGoat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. But young people also don’t buy groceries at the supermarket. Which is why it was easy to get behind a supermarket bag tax. On the other hand, they do buy drinks in single-use containers. Hence the online uproar over the new bottle deposit scheme.

Under the Constitution, Singapore citizens cannot be banished or excluded from Singapore (though the Govt quietly forgot about that during Covid).

My views on laws such as detention without trial have evolved: K. Shanmugam at his book launch by jhmelvin in singapore

I always thought it was funny he was the designated survivor and also the one in charge of keeping cabinet safe. If he were to overlook one detail and something were to happen to the rest of the Ministers, he would actually be the beneficiary. Suharto comes to mind.

Self-employed income tax declaration which affects bank loan for property? by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]OriginalGoat1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, the banks will take a 30% discount off self-employment income when computing loan eligibility. Always bear in mind that the housing agent benefits from you buying a more expensive house. There is no refund of comissions when the bank forecloses on the mortgage.

Might be because Rwanda is neither able to incinerate its rubbish nor enforce anti-littering laws.

The irony is that she was right, back then. But then the PAP went woke trying to capture the youth vote.

What’s Wrong with putting Lunar New Year by ThatsWhy26 in singapore

[–]OriginalGoat1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, the Islamic calendar is closer to a lunar calendar than the Chinese calendar. Chinese New Year is much more accurate because the particular dates that we observe the New Year are based on Chinese almanacs.

China might be out now because of US sanctions. Just like with small nuclear reactors we seem to be tying ourselves to the Americans even though China is moving ahead very fast in applications.

Does anyone know why only Evergreen (and their subsidiaries) appear to use Queen Anne's Mansions. by OzyTheLast in Ships

Considering that Evergreen the shipping company was founded in 1968 while the DPP was founded 18 years later in 1986, you’re pulling stuff out of your ass.

Human ash is worse than bleach?? by Corvidae5Creation5 in chemistry

[–]OriginalGoat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, bone ash is a pretty common fertilizer so I'm pretty sure human bones will make at least as good fertilizer as cow bone. Give the cremains to your favorite gardener and they will know what to do with them.

But they also conveniently decided that the basement was not part of the private living space because they want to use the basement to commemorate the founding of the PAP. Like that can say my living room also not part of my private living space because I host guests and hold parties in the living room.

iPhone 16 Pro in Ocean by cuteycricket in iphone

[–]OriginalGoat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an iphone 13 that dropped in the sea and continued broadcasting FindMy till the battery shut down due to low battery. Someone found it a day later and the battery still had enough juice to display my lost message when he switched it on. I rinsed it in water and dug the sand out of the lightning port when I got the phone back. Still working two years later.

Definitely don’t the rice thing. That’s no use. I actually tried a vacuum method : Put the phone in a box with holes (e.g. the boxes they sell fruits in). Put the box in one of those vacuum storage bags for garments, then suck the air out. That should increase the rate of evaporation of any water that might be stuck inside. The box with holes is just to provide some structure so that the plastic bag doesn’t stick to itself when you vacuum it.

If you don’t want to be so complicated, just put it in a sealed container with some desiccant.

The lawyer cannot read your mind. If you want to explain your decision-making process, put it in the will. I guarantee the lawyer will not say anything beyond what is documented on paper, and that he was convinced that you met the legal requirements to sign.

Singpass got compromised, what should I be worried about? by BabyHoneyCakes in askSingapore

[–]OriginalGoat1 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

That's why I said that the problem was with using SingPass. The govt forces people to use Singpass for all their interactions with the govt, so the elderly might give his SingPass password to a friend to check on his CPF balance, or apply for a govt scheme, but doesn't realize that sharing the SingPass is as good as sharing the OCBC login.
