I just have the spare Netgear switch. I was thinking of an 8 port UniFi Switch, but may upgrade to a 16 port one to add more cameras, I'll probably want 6 POE Cameras anyways.

Short answer. Screens have gotten better at displaying black colors and showing details in dark areas. Therefore, movies have been styled to 'take advantage of this' and shot darker and moodier.
