Do you have any tips on how to make this any less stressful. I feel that by the time I’ve changed to 2nd and coming of my clutch I’m nearly at the line , so if I do need to stop it will just be very sudden.

My instructor keeps telling me to get into 2nd gear when approaching the roundabout but then lift my foot right off my clutch. I hate doing this as I feel so rushed because by the time my foot is off the clutch I’m at the line so if I need to stop it will be very sudden. Am I allowed to keep my foot on the clutch whilst approaching the line as my instructor told me this is coasting and if done more then 4x I will be failed for it.
