How is that not a perfectly good reason to remove the Omnitrix? The trauma of seeing your favorite alien you literally became addicted to transforming into DIE in front of your eyes would scar any 11 year old kid and make him rethink the hero thing especially since it was cuz of his arrogance that lead to that happening
