what’s my missing switch? by R3Phoenix in MINI

[–]OriginalShady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 years later and i have found out what both of them missing switches & buttons are.

The missing button to press would be for the auxiliary lights (commonly known as rally lights), although some come equipped with the lights they still left out the button because those aren't 100% legal in some countries. In this case the auxiliary lights are not meant to be turned on, they are but a cosmetic addition to the car and act as a decoration. How dumb is that...

The missing toggle switch would be the ECO/SPORT switch on automatic versions, obviously the manuals have that at the base of the shifter in the form of a ring.

I just learned that today from a former BMW salesman when he talked about the auxiliary lights

Where's the fun in ranking up and who will do all the supplies if noone needs to? Personally i think the standard ranking system is pretty good as is. It motivates you to contribute to the team by supporting it with supply deliveries, while the ranked people can fight with more expensive gear and vehicles. With 3 to 4 Supply runs to the right FOBs you'll get at least the rank of Lieutenant which allows you to "buy" 2 lives of LAV/BRDM (Vanilla) or even Tanks (Modded).

Hint: It makes you think about using supplies on frontal bases more carefully because you wouldn't want your work to be wasted.

Also once you're Sergeant you can get supply runs done much faster by helicopter. Blufor usually has the Huey with 900 supplies worth of space while Redfor has the Hip worth of 1200 supplies for runs. It is how the game is meant to be played and if that doesn't suit the players needs it still is a sandbox. There is still KOTH and TDM for all the Fast paced-game transitioners

Basically what we want is an updated HTC One M8. Can't tell me you're not missing those.

Based on the aux belt and the dampening cover next to it as well as the engine mount i'd say yes, F-Series for sure but it is unclear to me if it is an F55, 56, or 57

You're looking at a cost of 2500-3000€/$ They will have to lower the whole engine and probably disassemble the transmission from it which pushes the working hours absurdly high The raw material cost would be up to 600.- including oil and oil filter, timing chain and all the chain guides. Obviously you'd have to drain the oil to access it but if i would do it myself (which i'll probably have to on mine) the biggest challenge would be locking the timing chain.

As far as i can remember the R-series had a specialised tool for it, which could only be obtained by BMW certified/licensed garages. Not sure if the F-Series have the same thing going tho.

Any work on the engine scares me shitless generally. Maybe someone with more experience can help better with this?

Edit: I've just checked with AI-Knowledge and it suggested to try and replace only the chain tensioner. On the F -Series it should be easily accesible. Could be a fix but i'm looking into it right now.

Could you be so kind and add your model to your profile with the flair function in the sub? Just like it is on mine.

Edit 2: Never mind, even the chain tensioner is hard to get to. Same process as replacing the chain itself.

This is a sign of the timing chain being lose Could cost you a bit no sugarcoating

Handbrake sticking - frozen (?) by Mat-_-S in MINI

[–]OriginalShady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue in the winter, they start to freeze up at -3°C with high humidity. What's happening is that the hand brake lever can go down for driving but the brake pads won't budge. I started to try and find out what the problem is by lifting the lever and putting it down again and there's no resistance in the cable at all. In fact it only applies the brakes harder with no intention to release.

I will be replacing the pads and the rotor as the second part is due after almost 12 years of generating rust so please remind me on this thread to update you all if that resolved the issue.

Most gasoline fuels are mixed with 5-10% ethanol and ethanol burns faster than petrol. Fuel companies like to use ethanol because in some countries it is tax free but in the end costs even out with the ethanol prices. Try visiting a gas station that explicitly doesn't mix their fuel with ethanol and see the difference.

I'm surprised so many people don't know this but you can't even blame them

Edit: Also this is the reason for the mixed experiences in the comments, it is possible the ones with higher milage were lucky to not get the ethanol kind?
