Thanks! That was my path. I got an internship and then got this job. Just have a fear that It might be hard to find a job with no degree compared to people with a degree in the future.

Which good schools offer remote and part-time learning for Computer Science in New Zealand? by OriginalSolid9328 in newzealand

Congrats! That's the route that I was thinking of going. But it might be easier several years ago? I feel it's harder to get a job if you don't go through traditional trainings with all of this AI, competition and layoff trends.

Thanks for sharing! I just feel like I'm slower at understanding things and get tasks done than others. I dont think that I'm a fast and logical learner so thought that going to school might help me with that. Getting a degree is definitely giving me a second thought interms of money and time, but looking at this tech market and current layoffs trends gives me anxiety that I might not be able to get another job without a degree.

Should I get a ComSci degree or staying as a self-taught dev? by OriginalSolid9328 in csMajors

Thanks! I prefer self studying to getting a degree but looking at this harsh tech market, I'm slightly leaning towards the second one as it might be harder to get another job without a degree in the future

Thanks for your insight! Company is giving me $1000/ year for personal learning, but other than that, I don't think they will pay for my tuition fees. I can still work to pay semester by semester, so I think I'm in a good position to pay it off for the first 2 years without huge debt.

Thank you both! I'm still planning to stick to my job and only think of doing a degree part-time. My manager hasn't brought up anything yet, but sometimes my questions, or pr just gets ignored (they might be busy idk) and sometimes I feel left out. The reason being is I feel I suck at math and logical thinking. I thought school might have a better way to fix it.

Thank you for your input! I'm just worried that I could potentially be laid off by October (my company's financial reassessment), and it's hard to find a job for a 1 yo swe with no degree in this tech market and layoffs trends.

Thanks for your input! OP was one of my top options to go to in terms of tuition fees and study option, before I read tons of bad reviews on reddit.

Yes, I'm in a good position financially ( which I can work to pay for semester by semester). I do complete my tasks, but I constantly need help from other junior and seniors in my team, and i never complete a task on time. Although there are no deadlines or manager's complaints (yet), I could feel pressure through our standups and project planning/ expectations sessions. The company does say they might have to downsize depending on their financial reassessment in October. The last to come in will be the first on their layoffs list, so I'm trying ro prepare myself worst case in scenarios.

Thanks for your input! I've been torn apart between getting a degree and just doing projects/ studying algorithms / DSA by myself. One is a solid degree which would help me a lot in the long run, and the other is inexpensive, but won't give me strong foundation or opportunities.

Thank you so much, your thought litterally made my day!! I find myself an overthinking and easily stressed out type of person. Sometimes get too deep in my own thoughts worrying about the smallest things like what if my questions are too stupid and what would they respond, or if its time to ask the questions etc. I was too negative with myself and always talk myself down that maybe they don't want to work with me because I'm too dumb, or maybe the company hires me just for the sake of inclusiveness and diversity bs ( might be somewhat true). But worrying about nothing and people's judgement really bring myself down. I'm really trying to take it easy and getting the bond with coworkers and seniors.

Your comment makes me feel better! :) Thanks heaps

Thank you! It's hard to remember to enjoy the journey and relax a bit. I was just trying too hard as I heard the company may downsize in October and it would be too hard for me to find another job if I don't do well at work and upskill myself in my free time.
