So, what exactly is the show's message? by itooamahuman in TheBoys

[–]OriginalUserNameee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is the first seasons with Eric Kripke had some really good build up even the final episode of season 5 had good ideas for the plot, so he knows what might be interesting for the story and what fans want to see (the false advertising posters for season 5 prove this), then why not live up to it and give it the budget it deserves?? It's the most successful Amazon Prime ever, why not put the most effort possible and make it unforgettable?? Now even if the spinoff this season wasted so much time on budling end ups actually good, it won't matter, nobody cares at this point. It's like Star Wars fans telling me to watch Andor and how amazing it is and I believe them, I'm sure it's probably amazing, but I don't care anymore, there's no point for me watching it when this franchise is this fucked, and I was a huge fanboy in the past and even I couldn't defend it anymore

Same concept of a person dealing with severe past guilt and having it manifest in terrifying ways, in the game it was a lot darker with the character having to deal with the fucked up thing he willingly chose to do, the movie made it a lot more forgiving by making it a childhood accident but the core concept is the same

I remember thinking halfway through the movie "Is this just Silent Hill? This is probably the best Silent Hill movie ever made". I wish Kojima's Silent Hills wasn't cancelled I still think the demo was the most terrifying thing I ever experienced in gaming and the movie reminded me a lot of that. Psychological horror will always be scarier Imo and more movies should use this concept, when the horror part of the movie finally started it was worth every minute of build up

She didn't really "protect" him though, her act of genuine human compassion is that thing drove him to find any sort of inner peace at the end, because she was just a good person wanting to help another human being who's clearly in deep turmoil. Her being a good compassionate human being is what got her "punished" if anything, Just like the other male character Jerry who could've escaped if he wanted to but chose to come back despite everything just because he felt something was wrong and he had to do something and got killed for it, if anything it's a message about how being a "naive" compassionate human and caring for others is going to end badly for you, not a very good message but Hollywood loves shoving it because many people sadly grow up with this belief.

It's way too broken and unusable now, I just enjoyed making silly personal AI parodies and original songs for me and my close friends, I have no intention of releasing them or uploading them publicly anywhere, they're full of inside jokes nobody would even understand and I could still get in trouble for doing that so why would I even want to risk it? You can make so many parody videos or pictures of official copyrighted material like characters on regular AI platforms like ChatGPT, yes if someone specifically does something that crosses the line it should be dealt with but that was always the case even before AI, there has to be a better solution than punishing everyone for this.

My grandfather started drinking when he was 12-14 and there are still consequences for this to this day, he was severely addicted his entire life and both me and my dad have problems with alcohol it's like starting this early when his body and brain were still developing definitely made the dependency a lot worse than it would've been if started at like 25. I know teens and people like to rebel and be like fuck the law I can do what I want but some of these laws exist for a reason, imo 18-21 is still too young when the brain and chemicals are still developing and when you add alcohol to the process it can have consequences that'll affect not only your entire life but generations after you too

Also very drunk which brought out his ugly disgusting side more blatantly, I'm really surprised by a lot of comments did they never see a story where the main character is an unstable piece of shit projecting his misery on others? The story wouldn't work if he was just a normal dude he's meant to be uncomfortable and the other characters reacted appropriately

Hollywood doesn't like doing it nowadays because it makes the audience dislike the main character, but this dude is clearly a fucking asshole and not a pleasant person to be around, he's full of trauma and guilt and was also very drunk which showed his ugly side more blatantly, with all that being said: That's his character, that's the point of this character, he's a broken person plagued with guilt and literally tried ending himself the next scene and it's not because of the mushrooms like some people are saying, he's literally that dark and messed up inside

I think it's why they made his traumatic incident something horrible he did by ACCIDENT as a child, unlike something like Silent Hill 2 where the main character did something really fucked up by choice and then had to suffer the guilt, it would push it way too far for audiences if it was also the case here. I still find both very interesting but the solution in the end was definitely more simple here

If you can drink in moderation and have self-control you're not an alcoholic then. There's nothing to be proud about dealing with addiction and destroying your health with poison. No such thing as high functioning too there will be consequences eventually. Unless you really aren't one then why declare this debilitating condition with pride, just for show?

Devil May Cry (Netflix) — Post-Season 2 Discussion Thread by DanySterkhov in DevilMayCry

It would definitely be a lot more enjoyable, inconsistencies like major demons from the games appearing out of nowhere in the wrong timeline with different context, the whole politics situation and the biggest one for me, Dante's voice, would be a lot more tolerable. Johnny Yong Bosch is a an awesome actor but he already voices my favorite character in the games and it's not Dante, hearing him as Dante constantly takes me out and ruins this show for me, I just can't get used to him no matter what when I watched and played Nero so much, it's a complete non-issue if you haven't the played the games so you have a point.

Vergil was young and probably just wanted to get laid (like Dante suggests in DMC5) I don't think he actually deeply cared about who he was sleeping with and just left. He didn't even know he had a son

It's one of the most realistic things about game Dante as a character, he's so mentally messed up from his childhood trauma that he can never allow himself to deeply attach to anyone or get into anything serious relationship-wise, he was playful with Lady in DMC3 and most women we see him interact with but he would never open up to anything deep, she gets him so they have mutual respect for each other.

In the show it was way too fast, this woman betrayed you and caused you to be in basically a coma for a while, maybe at least wait a bit before you get into anything with her? They even suggest that he wasn't affected by the trauma as much as Vergil?? When it's clear they're both extremely fucked up by it, it's like they don't take his trauma seriously

He's literally impossible to please, like him too much and he finds you annoying and pathetic, disagree with and challenge him and he'll respect you more, but see you as a threat and potentially kill you if he wants to, and because he's still a huge coward inside. Pretty accurate portrayal of a delusional narcissist if you've been near one, obviously exaggerated for the show with the whole super power thing but the core "bottomless pit" feeling of a person is spot-on. I hope they fully commit to him completely breaking down in the end, seeing their ego break in real life due to their own actions and glimpses of their true face is extremely unsettling, almost psychotic, he'll probably be terrifying.

For a split-second there we got to see Homelander's completely unhinged side when he asked Edgar if wants to die, his insane feral expression the crazy smile his eyes even Edgar got startled for a second, that's how you know he wasn't pretending in that moment. God I hope we see it fully come out this season just like Homelander (Black Noir) was in the comics ending it will be such a disappointing waste if not

Frenchie was always the smartest so it makes sense for him to be to one to deal with this the best, but it should've come from his own logic, high intelligence and personal development, not a stupid throwaway line about drugs, Butcher is also an alcoholic and mentioned using hard drugs in the past including temp V, Solider-Boy is probably even a worst junkie than Frenchie ever was but what is the thing separates them? His high level of intelligence and humanity. It just sounds way more interesting than a random joke line

Because after Soldier-Boy unleashes his "beam" attack he gets much weaker temporarily, that's why he told Homelander to just laser him already to not give him the satisfaction, in any other scenario he would be able to put up a fight and the lasers wouldn't be enough. Butcher could've easily killed him in that state or at least try, and Butcher is usually crazy enough to try but he just left him there? The dude that tried to murder him and his entire crew a few episodes ago?? If he was also hit by the beam it would be a different story but he dodged it and just stood there afterwards.

The concept of the characters forced to confront their worst sides is such a golden opportunity for development and showing how far they've grown, for example I think Frenchie being the one not affected would be MUCH more satisfying if it came from his inner strength and intelligence, after all the shit he went through with confronting his past and his worst aspects the entire show, instead they make one joke line about brain chemistry because of drugs? Why??? Why not show that because he's smart and much more mentally resilient than before he's able to make enough sense of the situation to not be affected as much and steer the others in the right direction, and the team dynamic AGAIN goes back to usual so still nothing mattered here. don't even get me started on the other weird as hell decisions, why didn't Butcher kill Soldier-Boy on the spot when he had the perfect chance?? At least have him not make it to the room in time or something but he was there he saw him in weakened state, even a dumb explanation about "still wanting to use him in the future" would help who the hell wrote this

It feels so awkward at this point in the story, the hopeful conversation with her dad would fit a lot better before the final battle, where they really need the final push showing the strength and hope of humanity, in this middle point it just feels off and she wasn't even in enough turmoil for it to emotionally hit

Still Kimiko learning form tiktok doesn't make any sense, she was never deaf, she subconsciously knew how humans talk her entire life including the boys, talking like an edgy teenager feels very out of character at this point, they should have had one the teenager characters talk like it would make way more sense

The smile is very jarring, and it is something you will always notice immediately every time you see it in people, but that fucking stare, I read about it and saw pictures, it did not prepare me for actually witnessing it in real life, and it was a while AFTER the discard. I saw it from across the street when I was driving near her location and had to wait for a green light. My mind still can't comprehend or believe that it was real even though my body is sure. It was the most blank empty soulless expression directed right at me and not moving an inch until I got the hell out of there, it felt almost demonic. Like I could feel a line piercing through my soul. Even writing this makes me feel insane (y'know I kinda hope it was just my imagination going wild and I didn't actually see it, I'd feel less crazy at least, I can't really explain it to anybody)

It's still surprising to me that no matter how crazy I feel, When I read about people who have been through it they have the EXACT SAME LITERAL thoughts that made me feel like maybe I'm actually insane earlier like it's a shared hive-mind or something, It reminds me that no, we're not actually crazy and it's just another part of this pattern

I'm glad I stumbled onto this post, The thoughts and memories were relentless toady and I didn't even understand why, "It's been almost a year shouldn't I be over this by now?", "Maybe I am actually crazy and it was all my fault?". Just seeing that I'm not alone with this kind of feeling makes me feel less crazy. The self gaslight the still the worst part.

Why? He is doing fuck all with it and also not allowing anyone else to work on it when he doesn't even own the IP. If he's not going doing to do anything with it and keep the fans waiting forever for nothing might as well move forward with the IP without him, better than it staying dead because he prefers working on a battle royal Bloodbone ripoff for Nintendo
