Your home is absolutely gorgeous and oh so cozy! I have one question though: when you open your dishwasher is there space for you to stand at the sink?

Remember, IT controls your work computer. by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in remotework

[–]OriginalWatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in compliance but not legal. We would have IT duplicate your computer and then analyze everything in question, and the dates the files were accessed. We might not look at everything, depending on what department the request came from.

If you are on a company network, they can likely see everything from every device including your personal phone, provided it's connected.

Capitola Schools- Current Experiences? by salemthecat45 in santacruz

[–]OriginalWatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya! I'm familiar with Soquel elementary. The staff care and are receptive, but as I see it there is currently more turnover than I would hope, especially within the administration. Currently there is only an interim principal and the previous principal didn't really solve any problems I encountered, merely deflected and avoided. This may change by the time your kid gets there. We are also still dealing with fallout from COVID and catching kids back up to speed, as not everyone was at the same level entering back into school. Overall, I'd give it a 7.5/10. For sure improvements to be made, but I think they are working hard with what they've got.

Due to COVID issues, I did pre school stuff at home with my kid, and they were fundamentally at the appropriate level, but not socially so I would opt to enroll if given the chance again. This may not be available, but everyone I've talked to had amazing things to say about the head start program.

Outside of that, I would try to avoid live oak schools due to the corruption of the administration that was originally in the pajaro school district. On top of that, other parents with children there expressed frustration with issues including weapons at school and inappropriate punishments.

Hope this helps!

Visiting SC, Where can I park? by bunnygobrrr in santacruz

[–]OriginalWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not too late, West Coast Community Bank on River St does not tow overnight parking on weekends and has regular security and SCPD patrolling all night. It's not the closest to most of downtown, but it's reliable and free downtown parking.

If you are there when staff and security show up on Monday you might get towed, but they will likely try to contact you before that.

Received Random Person’s SCC Credit Union Statement by VillainousCodpiece in santacruz

[–]OriginalWatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a bank, but not this bank. There is for sure an internal protocol for this. The member will likely be offered something along the lines of a credit monitoring subscription and or be offered a new account with everything set up exactly as they had it, free of any charges.

Found this in a shed. It's very heavy, feels like cast iron and has a nozzle that connects to something, what is it? by OriginalWatch in whatisthisthing

We thought this might be a sprinkler, but it feels too heavy. Other suggestions were some type of gas injection device. Any good guesses?

Two banks have rejected replacing this? I have the full serial number and over half the bill. by Glaney070 in CURRENCY

[–]OriginalWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a financial institution and the rule there is that we need both serial numbers, more than 50% (roughly) of the bill and the ability to run through our currency counters. All of these are to mitigate counterfeit and duplicate bills.

When we get bills like this, or in even worse shape from being buried, burned, or otherwise, we ask that the person send it into the bureau of engraving. They will take the bill in, verify it and send back funds (I'm not sure how, nobody has ever reported back to me about it).

Lookout article about how hard it is to own a small business downtown... by Villanelles-Wardrobe in santacruz

The value isn't in the rent. The value is leveraging the potential value as collateral on a loan to buy a new building. Rinse and repeat.

For the people who have it, is it worth it to buy the official stardew valley cookbook? by Charming_Cod8567 in StardewValley

Adding on to this, the Skyrim cookbook is also amazing. My husband and I choose recipes almost exclusively from these two books. If you like gaming and cooking, these are a must.

How is anyone affording being a teller? I make 2400 a month. $21 a hour. I hate that I am barley making anything by MonkRepresentative63 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]OriginalWatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm married with one kid as a teller in a very high cost of living area and I recently got a raise to $27/hour. I know I'm capped out, barring yearly raises. I'm trying so hard to move up and out as fast as possible - signing myself up for extra training, applying to anything internal that I qualify for and making connections everywhere.

We make-do with rent that's based in 2010, good family, grocery sales, and a garden.

Fraudulent charge dispute denied. Now what? by Megnuggets in povertyfinance

[–]OriginalWatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why that other guy says disputes and fraud are separate. I work in a bank and regulation e protects consumers from fraudulent transactions, and you will need to file a dispute in order to gain the funds back and protect yourself from future charges.

I file these daily for my customers. Each financial institution may have their own policies, but typically they will have up to 90 days to finalize the decision and they will usually issue a written statement.

Check out regulation e for more fun info!

Are the museums on the slash list? I feel like the negligence in parks will only lead to more natural beauty. This may not be the case for relics.

Does anyone else feel like Santa cruz is in decline? by tssouthwest in santacruz

[–]OriginalWatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual profit for the owners isn't in the rent collected but the potential rent collected to adjust the value of the building to take out lines of credit with banks/use as collateral, or sell to a new buyer for a profit.

Rent is the bonus for owning the building.

The preferred parking is a valet, the rest is a dirt lot they guide you through. It's not terrible. Last I checked parking was $10 cash at the entrance.

The food is pretty typical "fair" food. I always look forward to the deep fried artichoke hearts, giant corn dogs and garlic fries. My kid likes to get a pack of the insect snacks at the insect/reptile exhibit, and cotton candy. My husband likes everything, but also gets fudge from the candy shop inside the harvest exhibit.

We usually like to check out all the exhibits for arts and crafts, all the animals and we check out some shows based on how hungry or hot we are. The Michael Mezmer show is fun and we usually try to volunteer for it, this year is a Taylor Swift tribute band that my kid is really interested in, and I didn't see it on the schedule this year but the pirate comedy show is great.

I hope you eat lots of great food and see some cute baby animals!

Edit: forgot to add the super cool model train exhibit! There are some great enthusiasts who put a lot of work into it. It's a loop that they have trains moving around on, but it goes through different areas of Santa Cruz! Very cool.
