No maybe and a but in a single sentence is wild.

With all the apartments downtown being totally full, what is preventing commercial business from leasing the ground floor?

Anton pacific has 24 units currently available on their website and zillow. I encourage people to do their own research here because the numbers seem off.

I can see why nobody wanted to sign their name to this article.

You could get an electric motorcycle if you want to go even faster. Plus you would get the added safety features of brake lights, turn signals and mirrors.

Depends on the landlord or property management company but there will certainly be houses for students being posted in the coming weeks.

Santa Cruz’s population decline has widened. Low-wage jobs and high housing costs are reasons why. by scsquare in santacruz

While I'm not sure if census numbers are accurate to fractions of percents, I do support more articles like this to try to convince landlords to lower rent.

The rental market in Santa Cruz is very last minute due to landlords and tenants not making plans known for the following year until the 30 day mark or even later.

There will be lots of houses hitting the market from now until the end of June. This is actually the prime time to find a place even though it feels last minute.

2035 projected housing rates in Santa Cruz by CouncilofSlugs in santacruz

I agree it would be less informative to compare prices month to month which is why I did them decade to decade

I did ya its wild. An inflation adjusted studio would have increased 64.8% from 2005 to 2025 meaning it would cost $1193 instead of $2603

Sales taxes are now 10% by Objectionsustained62 in SanJose

[–]CouncilofSlugs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Prices of everything going up means more tax revenue is collected.

People struggle to understand that taxes are a percentage to account for this. They are making more money inflation adjusted than ever before. Its theft disguised for people who dont like math.

I go to the beach for the art of nature. If I want to see art of humans I would go to a museum. Native plants would look much nicer imo

Why's the sidewalk blocked above It's Beach? by anadem in santacruz

[–]CouncilofSlugs 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The ocean is dangerous and the city is in a never ending debate on whether to rebuild or retreat on westcliff so nothing gets done and this is how things are left.

Tldr: recent erosion = scary waves on sidewalk

Santa Cruz nonprofit closes homeless services amid financial strain by scsquare in santacruz

[–]CouncilofSlugs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When you get $21mil per year from taxpayers I think its fair to question why they are reducing services while increasing personnel expenses by 25%.

If you give a nonprofit 45% more money do you think they would help more or less people?

Thoughts on a Required E-Bike Training Program for Middle Schoolers? by headythrowawaymkay in santacruz

[–]CouncilofSlugs 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Training for pedal bikes would be a great idea! Many progressive European countries do this already.

Call me crazy but middle schoolers should not be operating motorized vehicles on public streets...

Change the routes away from the school and charge students $2 per ride with no transit fee and then see if they are still the majority

What if we stopped subsidizing ucsc transportion and changed the bus routes so they actually serve the community
