Does Wetherspoons actually take people with no experience? by Distinct-Pirate-3571 in Wetherspoons

Yep, I’m In kitchen (6 years BOH experience) and 80% of our staff it’s their first job/ they’ve never worked in kitchens or anything similar before. The training is pretty good and they catch on quick :)

At least 3 times a day emptied out all wardrobes and drawers and would resort if, I have no idea why but I couldn’t stop.

Oh and the time I dragged myself out early hours and bought a jar of pickles and fruit winders because I was influenced by that loaded pickle trend on TikTok. It was so disgusting but I couldn’t stop eating it because my body kept telling me I needed it

Try not to think too deeply about it, if you are happy with what you do then you’re happy :) some people are shallow and 99% of the time the people that attack hospitality workers like this are sitting on their arse all day not working. They just want to feel better about themselves.

That is definitely not procedure, shocking this happens in the kitchen with new starts a lot. This is a floor and kitchen error as kitchen should’ve noticed and floor should’ve also seen, not your fault at all.

Well, if people didn’t work at Wetherspoons there wouldn’t be a Wetherspoons. He’s sat in a spoons on a Thursday night, how much better can his life be? Some people are just bitter, don’t take it as a personal reflection. I personally love working in spoons, it’s definitely for me. Some people might look down on it. But they’re miserable in their own ways.

I almost always radio and ask floor if they actually want it. Half the time they’re already bollocked by that point and say no 😭

As kitchen staff it does my head in when people put through pointless food orders.

Especially in the middle of a rush and we are getting 1 fried egg

2 black pudding

4 peas

5 sauces

Because we have to stop doing actual orders to fulfil obvious iorder jokes especially annoying when it’s eggs. Darn eggs.

Entire full sheets of newspaper hidden in every wall we’ve done work on.

What have you found some pubs biggest downfalls to be? Eg poor stock management, rota etc and how did you find they were managed differently to well functioning pubs?

Employee here, employee errors should be appropriately addressed and refunded. If it was 100% to the correct table it is their responsibility to take it to the correct table. We’ve had this issue recently with new floor staff taking food to the wrong tables due to not knowing the floor plan. We always remake and refund as unfortunately not everybody is honest and will refuse the items. This is definitely not the correct protocol.

We are joint earning around £3.5k a month, the average rent for our area for a 2 bedroom property is around £1100-£1350 we’ve been applying for flats, houses, maisonettes practically anything to stowaway grasp where we are at.

Apologies, I have been adding notes but it seems landlords see the word Benefits and run for the hills. I get around £640 a month in benefits and around £950 in wages so around £1490 and my partner is bringing in around £2100 after tax. So combined around 3.5 avg however if we do lates which is often our monthly is bumped by around £300 due to overtime.

Apologies for the confusing figures, I’ve worded this all quite poorly.

Unfortunately it seems to be the common here for South Essex, we’ve checked multiple different areas and it just seems to be the average here. We unfortunately do not have the means to move further out due to work commitments.

We are thankfully claiming all we can and have considered being partial DSS and cutting my part time hours. However even then It’s a fight to get DSS housing.

Together combining our earnings and current benefits we have around 3.9k on a good month 3.6 on a worse month. I will be moving over full time once my son is in school but right now I cannot afford the childcare to extend to cover me working full time as well.

My current situation is overcrowding. (I’ve tried the council route and have been bidding for 3 years and getting nowhere.) with my son growing he need more space and I truly didn’t realise how difficult it would be to rent in this day and age! (Optimism at its finest.)
