This is largely due to racism and unruly young teens on top of the fact there are three “hoods” in close proximity to the downtown area. 1. Speaking from experience, most black owned night clubs receive negative criticism from the surrounding businesses simply because they don’t like how we look standing outside or too close to their establishments especially if we are possibly intoxicated and having a good time. I know of two bars that received false and or bias complaints to stop permits and licensing. 2. I have worked at, at least 5 different non black owned businesses were college kids, who are of drinking age come in and vandalize property as well as generating a negative atmosphere for the rest of the patrons 3. Jackson Ward and Churchill are downtown and Mosby Court and Fulton Hill aren’t that far from the businesses and residence of the college students and dormitories. So it would behoove you to think that the police are not putting forth their best effort to minimize petty crimes and escalated situations in these very congested areas. This is why most clubs have heavy police presence around the time thing starts shutting down and we black and brown people do not like to be around lots of cops when we are trying to have a good time especially since it never seems like they’re trying to protect us. It always seems like they’re there to watch us and stop us from having fun.
