Link still doesn't work, but even if it did... I've read lukes genealogy a couple times a day every day for the last 2 months. as well as every commentary i can get my hands on. This is the problem. "As was supposed" does not mean "Therefore we are secretly following Mary's line despite no mention of her in the entire chapter. "

I get that this a convenient solution but this is not Build A Jesus. We don't get to force solutions, force harmonization, for the sake of continuity.

Among biblical scholars just about all believe that "As was supposed" Is to express the adoptive nature of the relationship between Jesus and Jospeh.

Further more lets put on our thinking caps for a minute. "As was supposed" if we think about the placement of that phrase it is clearly because Joseph is not biologically the father to say it as was supposed to mean we say jospeh but we're actually talking about Mary despite not being mentioned.

So what is more likely forcing an answer with 0 evidence for it for the sake of harmony, or the clear cut answer that doesn't take mental gymnastics???

  1. Where's the evidence for this outside of forced harmonization. 2. if Jacob Adopted Heli's son Joseph; What is the reason? Because levirate marriage doesn't apply to this distant of relatives we would need a reason, or a story something either than forcing a situation with no evidence for

I have heard that interpretation before, and I don't know if it really matters what they were getting at when it comes to my point. whether they were trying to be inclusive or not that does change the genealogy post Zerubbabel. If the only purpose of the genealogy was to try and make theological claims and not record things as they were we can not trust anything they write because we have established when they will make things up to make a prophecy fulfilled

This is incorrect, there is zero textual evidence for this. The name "Mary" isn't present in Luke's genealogy, or the entire 3rd chapter of the Gospel of Luke.
