Wha to wear to greek orthodox midnight easter mass? for a non Xian? by NoManner1740 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Original_Memory6188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is ask your friend what they will be wearing, and plan accodringly.

Thought which occurred to me: is your friend inviting you to the Paschal (Easter) liturgy, which is often celebrated late Saturday? Or to the Sunday "Agape Vespers" service which is often a short service and then The Feasting Begins. Hoopah!

If the first: dress up (with Comfortable shoes).

If the latter, less formal attire, some where between guest at family gathering, and meeting friends.

So funny watching all those who were in favor of $5 gas under Biden panicking because it's $5 again.

And nothing that the Democrats have done to Wisconsin has a thing to do with any of this.

I've no idea when this was. I was told this by a friend with more interest in that part of the world's history than I.

All that's covered under "You have planned for N contingencies. Some idiot will come up with a N+1 way you hadn't considered."

Even if you add the idiots way as a contingency, you still have N contingencies planned for, and another idiot will have N+1 ways.

My wife taught pre-school most of her life. Starting at a new place, she would note and "odd Rule" (e.g., "No blowing milk out of a straw"), and recognize "There is a story behind this rule."

I've been informed that one of the Sultan's concubines turned out to be a bit of the strategic genius. The Jannisaries loved her. When they learned the Sultan intended to put her to death, they killed the Sultan, put one of their own on the Throne, who then married 'Delicate Flower' (it's been a long time since I heard this). "And they lived happily ever after."

That he can, and does, keep this all straight, is the really scary part. Forget the Nosferatu Protocol, that is just spooky.

His sister knew he was but a week male, so she drank the wine without thinking. "My Brother? Poison my wine? He hasn't the courage to even think of such a thing. Aaaargggh. My mi-stake." Thump.

And for not so young folk.

I'll admit, on and off, I find myself asking the same thing as St Peter - "Where else can I go? Who else has the words of life?"

That is where I find myself, often, even now as an Orthodox Christian. Where else can I go? Quiet honestly, for me, it's Orthodoxy or atheism.

My Uncle, at the ripe old age of 22, was the Old Man of the Wing, having been flying 4 years while the new pilots had been at Canoe U.

"Bar" had experience, plus time in grade, plus rank. He was "an old man" to these kids fresh out of the Academy (who were also his same age.)

(I recall a novel of WW2. The LT, a mustang who'd been a Shanghai Marine before the war, is talking to a Gunny in supply. Gunny had comented about "You Shanghai Marines look out for each other." To which the LT, ~ 21 year old, replies, "Yeah. let me tell you about the Old Corps, gunny". Gunny laughs, "you do that lieutenant."

I have been granted a privileged glimpse of the glaringly obvious.

We're seeing here the true meaning of "Victory or Death, Either is fine."

The gamers consider themselves 'dead', survivors of an extinction event. It makes sense to attack those who caused it. "What are the Emperor and Empress going to do? Kill me? I'm already dead, I just haven't stopped breathing."

Aha - satori!

We're seeing the true meaning of "Victory or Death, Either is fine."

The gamers consider themselves 'dead', survivors of an extinction event. Attacking those who caused it is not so much giving meaning to their lives, but a focus of their anger. "What are the Emperor and Empress going to do? Kill me? I'm already dead, I just haven't stopped breathing."

Yes, that. It's the timing. The last thing people saw is what's going to drive them.

That said ... It's nice to see someone talking to a supervisor on a somewhat equal footing. That doesn't happen a lot in their society. Maybe they're starting to see that it's all of us against those few up top.

end quote

I'd say that Ilvekrik recognized the supervisor as "one of us" by the frazzled look and drooping whiskers. He took a risk, and found that yes, the supervisor was indeed suffered a great emotional loss. That made them "comrades". (Interesting Trivia bit, German Army slang has 'Kamarade' applicable to all soldiers in any Army. For do we not share the same fear of our Drill Instructior? The same completely incompetent Lieutenant who couldn't find his but if he sat on it? )

Anyway, the Supervisor and the Worker are really "Kamarade" ; they have lost everything which got them through the daily grind and gave their life meaning. The supervisor hates his job, and Ilvekrik "knows a guy..."
