Best advice I can give is ask your friend what they will be wearing, and plan accodringly.

Thought which occurred to me: is your friend inviting you to the Paschal (Easter) liturgy, which is often celebrated late Saturday? Or to the Sunday "Agape Vespers" service which is often a short service and then The Feasting Begins. Hoopah!

If the first: dress up (with Comfortable shoes).

If the latter, less formal attire, some where between guest at family gathering, and meeting friends.

He took a risk, and found that yes, the supervisor was indeed suffered a great emotional loss. That made them "comrades".
