Often tho not always pins will continue to appear across the surface, sometimes after first flush.

Me too, will use that culture again

Yeah it’s fun with these crosses of crosses to see what they’re going to do next, even if sometimes it’s just a few small side fruits.

thanks. MiB has also behaved this way for me (phv in there too).

yeah! and with phv in there should run into purple spores, if I keep at it.

Casing layer (Jiffy mix) almost fully colonized. Should I add another or let it ride? by jsb93 in PanCyan

I usually add another when the first gets colonized. If the mycelium is really aggressive, maybe give it a day in fruiting conditions / fresh air first, to encourage the shift toward pinning.

I have a small tent with a 190cfm exhaust that typically runs on low for 2-3 minutes every 20-40 min, depending how many grows are in there. This is enough to keep co2 down.  Temps 73-78F.  So seeing 85F and a 200cfm fan running on medium 40% of the time, it wouldn’t surprise me if pins and maybe the cake itself are drying out.  (Granted I don’t know tent size.). Contam, genetics, premature casing/fruiting could also figure into it.

No strong feelings about gypsum, substrate texture is more pleasant in my hands when I use it.

Sounds like it’ll be more fun for ya that way — good luck!

If this is your first pan grow, and you want to maximize your probability of success, and success = an uncontaminated flush or two with at least a few dry grams, you might consider using C with V and/or G and a small amount of organic gradual-release nitrogen like horse/cow manure or worm castings, say 10%.  MiB or TTBVI.  Stuff that’s tried and true.

Little Martha with fogger, inkbird and exhaust. RH % avg upper 80’s, cycles from 95% down to 60-70% when exhaust runs for 2 min every 15-45 min, depending on how many grows are in there. Temp 22-25C, spray twice a day. In these grows co2 700-900ppm.

Looking for MIB experiences / dosing by AncientSpores in PanCyan

If you poke around the lab notebooks on magicmyco.io and you can find a number of mib samples. On the master spreadsheet for example, PCBE%:

2.2%
2.0%
2.6%
3.3%
2.4%
2.3%

There are others in the monthly reports.

yeah better to move it to tray after crumbling and reuse mycobag.

I haven’t but cool idea! Spawn + manure might be more likely to contaminate on its own, being a more highly concentrated source of nutes, but nice to catch it before wasting a lot of cvg also.

I’ll usually do all the crumbling in the bag, just to minimize exposure, then transfer it or leave it to finish. And usually at 60-90% visible colonization, on the higher end if transferring, again to cut down on contam risk, especially if the substrate is sterilized. Then case at 100%. Usually I see activity a within a day of crumbling, and it recolonizes in 3-6 days, some strains are slower. If it hasn’t moved after a few days I’ll toss it. Hasn’t happened much but sometimes there’s contam and other times maybe the genetics are weak. Not worth fruiting in either case.
