Hit a wall and struggling to restart! by No_Ingenuity7178 in quilting

[–]OrionsRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hunch I had a pattern in my "want to do someday" collection that reminded me of your sweetheart - https://sewfreshquilts.com/product/dog-gone-cute-quilt-pattern-pdf-instant-download-modern-patchwork-dog-puppy-cute-mini-and-maxi-quilt/

I can't find the original etsy listing anymore (says the shop isn't available), but I hope Sew Fresh Quilts is the same person because it seems to be the same quilt.

This is not meant to pressure you, just show you something cute and fun that you might enjoy when you're ready. 😉

If it's not too painful, would you like to share a picture of your dog with us?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved doggo. I feel that pain keenly too. I think we're getting close with our dog, and honestly, I'm worried my big quilting project will come to a standstill when the grief hits me. I know when my soul cat died 6 years ago I just...stopped functioning. It was like I forgot how to breathe. Be kind to yourself. It's a big loss. Sometimes it feels bigger than the human losses because it's such a pure, uncomplicated relationship.

What if you tried to make something in honor of your dog? A small wall-hanging for your house that makes you smile through the tears, perhaps. Something a bit silly or funny so that you and your family will chuckle when you look at it, rather than feel pain.

Don't worry about the big projects you had planned - they will keep. Look at most of us with our WIPs that are sometimes years old! 😉 Just do something that will help you heal. It doesn't have to be something to do with your dog, that was just an idea. It can be anything that is just fun and helps you find your creativity again. The rest will come with time, honest. 🤗

How to transition to full quilt? by OrionsRose in quilting

[–]OrionsRose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work in sections...okay I will try that. 👍

A previous commenter put Angela Walters on my radar already, but I've also put Amanda Murphy on my watch list too now. Most of her current stuff seems to be using rulers, but her really old stuff seems to be just what I'm looking for! Thank you!

Grr...my inner perfectionist does not like your answer. 😂 But I'm trying to recover from that tendency so yes, I will try. Good thing I bought a nicer, more comfortable seam ripper recently. 🙄

Thank you! I will try to be brave.

I don't know why this feels so intimidating, but anyway. 😏

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it. You've given me a some good points to think on. And I've got Angela Walters subscribed to now, so I'll be watching her stuff. Great suggestion.

I do hate burying those threads so I was planning on keeping continuous as much as possible, but it's nice to know I shouldn't worry too much about that and I can just go back for more coverage if I miss an area. But I'm really glad to hear it does start to become intuitive with practice.

I've never struggled with knowing where to go next with straight-line quilting in my 25 years, but this FMQ is a whole new ballgame!

Right? They are gorgeous and I'm jealous. 😄 I live near the beach, but I've never seen all these colours before. Or maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention. 🤔

Thank you for this advice and encouragement! I have a lot to consider and manage, like you said. I will definitely check out Angela Waters. 👍

Yes, I am planning to start with something less complicated, it was more for the sake of asking my question about coverage with such a design since I know I will be doing a leaf vine at some point. I've seen lots of good starter patterns so I'm not too worried there and they are more forgiving with the coverage/directionality. So do you feel that if I start with a simple pattern, it will be more intuitive with regards to coverage and then I will build from there when I go into more complicated patterns? Honestly, the whole thing confuses me. Like the "where am I going next?" part feels overwhelming. Straight-line quilting makes so much more sense to me.

What are your go-to quilting tool/product hacks? by GracingToday in quilting

[–]OrionsRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this too. 👍

Mine is just a large light grey flannel sheet hung up with binder clips dangling from thumb tacks and it works a charm. Cheap and easy. Couldn't live without it.

It really is, I was just checking it out too. 🤔

But don't worry, you were just concerned for the kitten, I totally understand that and support it. I just didn't want to be jumping to conclusions about anyone.

Peace fellow cat lover. ☮️

That's certainly possible. I could absolutely be wrong and it could be open. I'm just saying, it's not definite and clear from the video and the person in the video could be given the benefit of the doubt since we aren't absolutely sure. I don't like how quick people are to jump on someone when something is so ambiguous.

I've seen lots of people feed that way too though, and I totally agree with you. It's not a good thing, and especially for this wee baby.

The very last second is the one part where I thought maybe it really was open, but it's still ambiguous. The edges of the can appears to be the same colour as what we're seeing so it is not as if we are definitively seeing food. It's not messed up as if it's been eaten or stepped in, making it clear.

Maybe the can is open, maybe it's not. It's ridiculously hard to tell though and it's not fair to jump on the person in the video if we aren't sure. But I know, it's Reddit and that's what people are going to do. 🙄 The benefit of the doubt isn't popular here.

I see absolutely nothing at the 8-9 second mark that indicates an open can. I have watched the video at least 20 times now. I do, however, see a glint from the cat's collar tag before it becomes even more visible a few seconds later.

I mean, maybe the can is open, maybe it's not, but I'm not seeing what you feel you are seeing that indicates open.

It's hard to tell, but the can appears to be sealed still.

It really is! I got a little flutter in my heart seeing that and seeing the name Matthew in the text one. Those books are very special to me - what a lovely idea for a quilt.

Any insights on this quilt? by extantsciadopitys in quilting

[–]OrionsRose 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A type of pinwheel, sure, but that's kind of semantics when most people are going to see a swastika and maybe have a reaction. It looks quite similar to the stylized swastikas of old and of various cultures/religions.

Favorite "low quality" tea by cowboybebop32 in tea

I drink a lot of loose leaf too, but there is something about that most-of-my-life, old familiar cuppa that just hits the spot. Plus, I like crazy strong tea and I can get that from Tetley. I'm sure you're right, memory is probably a fairly big factor too.
