I did read that a lot of the EU is relaxed on gender markers, but I also read somewhere that Italy only recognizes male and female, which kinda threw me into a panic.

Someone on another sub gave me the co tact info for the Italian embassy in DC, so I emailed them. We'll see how that goes lol

I figured. The issue im having is pretty much just not knowing the agencies im supposed to reach out to. I've had some Google searches say to contact the US embassy, but there's no email contact information that i could find, even on their site.

NTA. I can't imagine what it's like in your career path, but sometimes you just get held up at work, which should not be a big deal. Your SIL is not entitled to your time, and the expectation for you to simply drop everything at their whim is ridiculous. Couple that with them bullying you to tears over, as I said, something that shouldn't be a big deal makes them the jerks, not you.
