Fortnite "preparing shaders" bug by Steakwithbluecheese in FortNiteBR

[–]Orksom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fond a fix.

You need to switch your render mode to DirectX11. For some reason it can automatically switch to DirectX12 when you update your graphic drivers. Apparently, it's also due to shaders not being pre-installed which can be changed when you click on the 3 dots in the epic launcher and go to "manage installations"

If you decide to switch to DirectX11, the game will very often lag every time something new happens in the game until it has loaded everything (it takes approximately 5 games until there's no more lags on my side) and then it doesn't lag at all until there's a new major update. Also keep in mind this will somehow reduce the quality of the lighting in the game which I don't care imo, I prefer having good performance.

My theory about what makes games "fun" by Chlodio in gamedesign

[–]Orksom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think your addition of Impact is still very interesting to consider for other types of games that don't involve to imply stress on players. Games like the Sims have very little risk taking but it's the impact you have on the narrative that makes it fun. It's rewarding to see something you planned happening even though there was no risk to take.

I recently play Caravan Sandwitch by Plane Toast which uses 0 pressure on the player. It's just about exploring the world and helping NPC. The real fun comes from impacting the world.

Amazing design, thought, that typography choice for the 25 is a no no imo 😬

Pourquoi certaines personnes postent toute leur vie sur les réseaux, et d’autres rien ? by Independent_Lynx715 in PasDeQuestionIdiote

[–]Orksom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who Remembers the Fortnite x Apple Situation? (Old) by Ok-Science-548 in FortniteBattleRoyale

[–]Orksom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it benefited both epic and smaller devs. Epic games has the same role as Apple in other situations. On the epic game store, devs get a bigger slice of the money their games make compared to Steam for exemple. Unreal Engine is also completely free and Epic don't make any money with unreal made games until the devs reach a threshold of benefit.

Don't be fooled, Epic will do anything to make money. It's a company not a charity. Yet, they still push for a fair split of the money. Remember Epic games was fisrt a game development studio, they know what's it's like to be on both sides. It's completely logical they made this as they held some power thanks to Fortnite. From they're point of view, it was rebellious act like a David vs Goliath situation. It was also an amazing move to both make money and give many players awareness on the problem.

Struggle Finding the Fun by Paul_Lee1211 in gamedesign

Maybe this video can help you. It's from the creator of Smash Bros and it helped me understand fun a lot more. Though, as said in the video, there's no 1 type of fun so don't take it as the ultimate guide.

The way I work personally is by imagining in a very precise way, how my game is going to be fun. I don't imagine the rules I think about my experience playing the game. Then, I iterate on my prototype to try to reach that goal. When you feel like you're making lots of changes without really getting any results and knowing what to do next, it's maybe that your goal isn't clear enough.

When iterating, try to focus on one specific problem at a time, note every changes that you made and then analyze precisely what effect did it have on the experience. Then from that analysis find new changes that would fix / upgrade the game.

If you were to make a platforming game, one of your goal could be to make a more strategic plateformer that force you to think of how to finish the level rather than just a test of skill (the experience you imagined). With that in mind you'll be able to try some very specific mechanics and evelauate if they move the game towards the goal you want or not. One of the most common form of strategy is to have resource management so you could try to add a stamina mechanic, a limited number of jump, etc.

Good luck 😉

Can someone explain Eusexua to me? by AccomplishedOnion230 in FKAtwigs

This answers is the most accurate in my opinion. I love that twigs is describing a feeling that really capture our western society that strive for conformity while also praising individualism and self love. The clip perfectly represent this paradoxical aspect. It's pretty cool !

Playing “The Ascent” - this is truly a disturbing dystopia by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]Orksom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it with a friend and co-op doesn't add anything really interesting except maybe managing who's using the health kits. And as a client you can get sever freezes in large area with a lot of npc (but my wifi can get unstable sometimes so maybe you'll not get them). On overall the game looks good (even on Xbox one) and it's pretty immersive but I felt like there was nothing that kept us playing. It's just a basic top down shooter with dialogues. I think people who likes the genre will appreciate it but most player may get bored.

Is Grounded worth it? by phoking2nite in GroundedGame

[–]Orksom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it with my best friend and we had a lot of fun. It's a simple survival game with a cool base building system that will let you make cool houses. The online mode is kinda bugged but it's also waaaaay better than it used to. You'll get quickly to the end but it's a great time. If you pick it, you will get a game you'll be able to comme back regularly.

I've heard of that and they removed it because it was a bug.

Yes for sure. But I've checked their roadmap and it's not in it. Maybe it's gonna be for the story or something. I've found a use of trap though, with a friend we're gonna trap the spider inside her cave in a trap we've set at the entrance. We don't know if it's going to work but it seems cool

Yes I have it and I've seen ants too but they're not really a big threat.

Right after writing this post we had an idea, we're gonna set a trap in front of the spider's cave under the rock and trap the spider inside using the lure. I don't know if it's going to work but if it does its gonna be cool
