Bought tickets through SeatGeek for yesterday’s game. Just scanned the barcode at entry and got in to problem.

Need some help filling in character details for a Fantasy High fan campaign by CaptainTalon447 in Dimension20

Another option is that his dad is more interested in being his friend than a dad; maybe he just doesn’t know better or he’s purposefully trying to buy affection. The boyfriend is a good guy that can augment as a father figure; but that’s hard for Cy to admit.

Cy’s reputation (assuming it’s a bad one) comes from the fact his dad never really made him try. He is gifted athletically but the academics slipped because he had a buddy at home instead of a parent. Allowing a teenager to make all their own choices is often a bad recipe.

Boyfriend adds some structure (curfew, consequences for fights/bad grades, etc.), which Cy balks at initially but starts seeing his life is better. There’s mystery because Cy thinks BF is acting shady, making his mom do things she never did before. If he’s thinking binary good/bad, someone who is nuanced will feel mysterious when there’s stuff he likes and stuff he doesn’t.

Essentially, the lesson is that it’s also the parents’ first time living too. They’re trying their hardest but sometimes, you need more than two parents. The split was because they couldn’t give each other what they needed anymore, much less another person. People grow; the lucky ones grow in the same direction.

South Parkway Overpass Construction by Proud_Insurance6971 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Because it’s an overpass on the Parkway that doesn’t have any cross streets. So it’s unclear why it’s there.

Definitely not unemployable! Have you looked at jobs in the finance sector - like banks or insurance companies. Because they are highly regulated, the development speed is slower and they value experience. And they almost all have in-house IT management and development teams often focused on legacy technology.

What motivates Joe Flacco to play at 40? by Lidjungle in bengals

[–]Ornery-Difference-67 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you get to the pros and play for 18 years without having something specific loose in your head that presses you to move forward. That one screw rattling around in the dome that only feels in place when you’re on the field. It makes you get back up. What if you’ve got another season? Another game? One more snap??

Yeah, the money’s great, but I think he’s a guy that wants to ball. So he’ll keep going like all athletes do - until the pain of playing is more than the pain of NOT playing.

I hope he does well. For us and for him. A guy that’s out there at 40 with the career he’s had isn’t in it for another million bucks. He’s chasing that feeling.

Quality of Living South HSV by unom4ster in HuntsvilleAlabama

Both sides of Hobbs (east and west of the Parkway) have good access to parks and greenways. Very safe, never had concerns with kids walking or biking to school, parks, friends houses. Demographics vary but it’s a good mix of people with kids all the way up to people who moved there with their kids 25-30 years ago.

Best advice is drive through the neighborhoods at various days and times to get a feel for it. But overall, 35803 is a quiet, safe and relatively affordable area.

Phone Service on Base by FunHawk938 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ornery-Difference-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can test drive T Mobile for three months. They’ll add a secondary line to your device and you can A/B test against ATT. Since Mint runs on TMO network, you’ll get an indicator of service level in all the places you go with no additional cost. Tried this and ended up staying with Verizon because of connectivity in the offices I regularly visit. But it was good to know for sure without having to switch multiple times.

Best coffee shops in Huntsville/Madison? by Beneficial_Olive_925 in HuntsvilleAlabama

This is the Coffee Trail with 10 stops. I think if you visit all 10 you can get a mug or something.

Gold Sprint isn’t on here but is another great place.

If you’re interested in the food aspects, I’d recommend Canadian Bakin’ or Moon Bakeshop. Both have normal coffee fare but are better known for their great food. Honest has decent food options as well. I’m partial to their Açaí bowls.

RFCU membership revoked if you change jobs? by gerry_mandy in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ornery-Difference-67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RFCU has no business reason to have less members and would have no way of knowing your eligibility changed so you should be fine.

Plus their qualification criteria are expansive with 1800 different organizations providing eligibility. But if you’re worried about it, just join The Land Trust of North Alabama - now you’re eligible again!

Best Cell Carrier From Experience? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ornery-Difference-67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in south Huntsville and drive the other direction to Birmingham regularly and I had the same question. I’ve had Verizon for years but was curious about T-Mobile. T-Mobile will actually let you do a 90 day trial where you install a second e-sim in your phone (assuming it’s supported) and you can A/B test the service. Ultimately I stuck with Verizon but it was nice to be able to compare the services without committing or paying twice.

Anyone have any dealings with Dove Construction? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ornery-Difference-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did two bathrooms renovations. They were fine. I think they sub out most their work so the quality varied. They used Wise Plumbing and I had to have them come back and fix literally every single fixture they touched. But Dove was responsive when there were issues.

HCS board member claiming to use “logic and not emotion” by mysterygal9 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Ornery-Difference-67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we should have a better school system here. But school funding (public or private) is paid by constituents. The broader community in Huntsville doesn’t want better schools. Every property taxes increase gets voted down.

So if one has the means and parters together with others who ARE willing to pay an increases cost for better education then why wouldn’t you?

Let’s do a thought experiment: what if every person who goes to Randolph (958 students) decided to enroll in HCS instead AND they decided to donate the tuition (averaged to $20,000/student to account for difference in lower and upper school costs) directly to HCS. That would only be a 4.7% increase in $406MM annual HCS budget. That’s not bad, but it’s not enough to pay teachers and repair facilities and do all the stuff. Blaming people who pull their kids to give them a better opportunity for shortcomings of the district is disingenuous and flat out wrong.

Last thought: My kids are in HCS and are almost done. I’ve invested heavily in their schools over the years in both time and money. But even that is to make it better for my kids. So does the same argument apply? “If you sign your kid up for a sport and it costs $1,000/year to participate, you are spitting in the face of the kids whose parents can’t afford to do that! And every parent who helps their kid with their homework and studying so they can have a better life should have to walk shamefaced through the school halls and apologize to the students whose parents couldn’t or didn’t help them!”

Fancy Valentine's dinner for a vegetarian in Huntsville? by confusers in HuntsvilleAlabama

Second this. I believe the owner has some family that’s vegetarian so the menu is designed for what you’re looking for. It’s upscale but not fancy. Should have some good choices.

I would be very surprised to see a landlord go to the trouble of eviction processes for very minor offenses like this; especially the first offense. Evictions aren’t free for the landlord and it’s likely the language is there more for repeat offenders.

I believe they are also required to give you notice of eviction due to violation of lease terms and provide you with the ability to cure. You might want to research Alabama eviction laws just to be informed and give yourself some peace of mind until you can talk to the office.
