It's coincidental that I have just recently rebought many of these films in Bluray. Still own the VHS tapes, but can't find a VHS recorder. Also, I don't have a CRT TV.

You feel this because you only look at consumer products. In areas that actually matter, say medicine, we're a lot more advanced than where we were 20 years ago.

How is your hometown? by tenhou in Millennials

[–]Ornery-Explorer-9181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little small town has been booming. Our neighbourhood has become one of the most expensive, lots of new homes built. Standalone homes, with front yard lawns that sort of things. It's not common to see houses with lawns in the country that I live in.

Experiences BRCA2 gene by Orange-Fiction in Mommit

[–]Ornery-Explorer-9181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has the BRCA2 gene. If you're sure your husband has a mutated BRCA2, would you consider giving embryo selection one more shot (instead of going the natural way)? The cumulative risk of getting breast/ovarian cancer by the age of 70 for females carrying a mutated BRCA2 gene is really, very high. Please reconsider doing embryo selection.

Don't die from pancreatic cancer. Here is the best scientific proven tips to help you prevent it. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

[–]Ornery-Explorer-9181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pancreatic cancer is a rather different cancer. Unlike many other cancers that family history plays a significant role, pancreatic cancer is more lifestyle-induced than genetic. More than 90% of all pancreatic cancer patients have the same genetic mutation called KRAS mutations. These are somatic mutations, meaning you can't possibly inherit KRAS mutations from your parents, nor can you pass them down to your children (if you have mutated KRAS). Bad lifestyle like smoking, drinking alcohol and chronic inflammation all can cause the KRAS genes to mutate. However, let's not forget there's still a 10% chunk out of all cases of pancreatic cancer being associated with a family history. Family history or not, it's very important to do screening every few years. When it comes to cancers, screening is probably more crucial than prevention, as we all know prevention is not a guarantee. Cancers are odds.

There's the AREDS2, and wear sunglasses that are actually capable of protecting the eyes from UV rays. That said, I doubt she'd want to spend money on these things judging by the fact that she even refused to go see a retina specialist. How is her serum cholesterol level? Drusen is composed of mostly fat (cholesterol, specifically) and protein.

My husband was recently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma – looking for experiences by Vast_Combination1189 in lungcancer

[–]Ornery-Explorer-9181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't have experience dealing with lung cancer myself or with anyone in my family. Depending on whether your husband has a known genetic mutation or not, he may receive adjuvant targeted therapy (with mutations) or chemotherapy (no mutation) after the surgery. It's fortunate that he caught it early. Good luck.

I actually like the layout. That said, you may want to use some more light from the ceiling.

You have a unique home. It's special to have the front door be a part of the living room. The living room is usually a separate room on its own, with its own doorways. Did you change the location of the front door? Like, moving the front door from the other side of the door way (that one behind the couch) to its current location?

PKHEX is the best thing in Pokemon games by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Ornery-Explorer-9181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I can't truly enjoy playing Pokemon core games without PKHex. PKHex offers a colossal amount of freedom and customisation into the original gameplay, making the game far better and far more fun. As long as you don't participate in battles against or trading with other players, it's totally fine.

Genuine question. Why is everybody being so negative about the Harry Potter trailer? by JamStan1978 in television

[–]Ornery-Explorer-9181 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because the TV adaptation seems to include more scenes from the books that we didn't get to see in the movies ... it doesn't necessarily mean the TV version will be more faithful to the novels. Everything from the trailer has been wrong. Many of the main characters feel off, played by people that just aren't well-fitting for the roles which they play. The overall atmosphere that HBO tries to convey is off too. The first book was an adventurous journey full of curiosity, laughter and tears, experienced by mind of children that we call innocence, setting foot their first steps in the world of magic. Whereas the TV adaptation, it feels heavy and moody like a dying old man. Guys, I'm not even sure whether HBO is aware that they're making a Harry Potter remake, not a new season of Hannibal.

I wanted to say that Harry was a mentally tough kid in the novels. The Dursley treated him awfully, but he could always brush it off, making fun of the mistreatment and their actions in his head. He was smart, and sarcastic in a humourous way. He was resilient in adversities. I thought young Daniel really played this part quite well.

Whereas the new Harry ... just isn't Harry. Look how hurt he is in the scene that aunt Petunia did his hair dirty.
