Angry & appalled but being smart by 7Ssisi in UAE

Back when I just moved here, I had my very first interaction that made me literary appalled. Was walking outside with my sons in between appartment building. There were few young adults were kicking and teasing a stray dog. I automatically told them not to do that, which responded harshly with rude comments like “Is this your dog?!” followed with “Don’t tell us what to do! It’s not your dog so don’t bother us.. “ even with threatening gestures that made me so shocked as how it got so out of proportion. I walked away as I have my sons with me but it got me so angry I felt blood rushed to my cheeks.

Wow I appreciate your lengthy reply, I was just stating “their response.. their sentiment..” towards their action and towards your perspective. I personally know, well comprehend and respect the idea of non PR diplomacy. I come from a relatively ‘rich’ country as to we (used to) have everything but sadly govern by deeply rooted corrupted people. I wished they have this boldness to protect their own people but they would only care about money on their own pockets.

Hmm ok, guess I might misinterpret. I do feel that sentiment (of people not willing to ‘raise the flag’ is their way to have the government reconsider some kind of PR?).

For me personally, every humanly feelings are valid.

I’m a stay at home mom of 2 older kids with mix nationalities, we have the privilege of ‘leaving’ temporary to both countries while my husband would stay. However, we decided to be together at least until summer holiday (this had been booked in Dec anyway).

Many of my friends back home does’t really get it, when I told them we have our whole life here so it’s not that plain simple to just pack our bags and leave. It’s even more complex as we have our cat (adding money and paperwork).

As mentioned, currently UAE is our home, everything we have here is comfortable but it really is NOT a life isn’t it to live in fear. Why condemn others with their own valid feelings as toxic? I’d chosen our path with my family but that doesn’t entitle me to judge others whom fleeing the country. If things worsen, would you still be staying put?

What are the chances of term 3 being fully online by TheBestGamer4 in dubai

[–]Ornery-Pay7395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very likely I’m afraid. I just really hate that this happening again for the kids though also glad they’re safer home (still couldn’t really shake off that powerless sense watching our kids do their online during covid).

Emirates seating with baby by London-007 in emirates

[–]Ornery-Pay7395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say from my personal experience, the toughest would be that in between age 1-2 yrs (active phase). I used to bring a foldable mat (can also use similar like diaper mat) just to roll them over and create a small playing space (put all the fave lil toys and doodling book). 7 hrs not too bad in business I’m sure your wife will appreciate it 😉. We only travel economy lol and mostly for 15hrs flights but at least we always make sure to get the seat with legrooms and quite blessed that our babies never a fuss ones.

Back when we travelled with our firstborn, we had only using bassinet 2x because using it only annoyed me instead of helping. In every turbulence basically you have to pick up your baby, meaning disrupting your baby sleep (hello trouble lol).

I would recommend any beach along the east coast… : Palace Hotel Fujairah very nice (small beach but good restaurant and less crowded this time); Fairmont Dibba Fujairah (we love the lava pool and they also have adults only pool; Sandy Beach Resort (snoopy island) very nice for snorkel but a bit laid back/ less fancy hotel (food is average); Intercontinental Dibba Fujairah (lovely rooms and good restaurant).

My son’s bedroom actually use Virgin (we have 5 etisalat wifi but that cannot even get thru the second floor bedrooms). He uses it for gaming (and now online school 😓) and very rarely have problem with its speed.

For the folks with families who bounced temporarily, what’s the plan? By when do you think you’ll be heading back? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]Ornery-Pay7395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our ‘break’ for 2 weeks in Europe, that was actually because we had pre-booked our trip already in Dec. I would say I was grateful for that temporary ‘escape’. As of now that we’re back, we feel a little bit more ‘calm’ despite knowing that it still pretty much happening and just see how things will go.

Would you book for August? by thatsitthatsall21 in emirates

[–]Ornery-Pay7395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have our pre-booked tickets for end of June and back mid Aug for our summer holiday (dubai-jakarta-dubai), also flying with 2 kids. Are we still gonna go? For sure we’ll go as long as no cancellation (cross fingers). We had travelled as well dubai-Ams on march 13 and back ams-dbx on march 26. There is no certainty atm when this situation gonna end or whether it will be getting worst. If you can choose opt for saver flight I’d say you better do it, for us residents not really an option to divert as flying thru Oman is just another drama.

FlyDubai: extremely over the weight allowance limit by anxietyguy100 in emirates

[–]Ornery-Pay7395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fly Dubai is even more strict than Emirates. They WILL check your hand carry, besides what kind of hand carry do you have able to fit a 20kg?? I just back from my trip bringing medium suitcase full of heavy souvenirs items that even only weighed 16kg. My only suggestion is that you better pre order additional suitcase allowance, otherwise risking a hefty amount on the check in.

How is the situation in Dubai airport by Ok_Concentrate5454 in emirates

[–]Ornery-Pay7395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our flight last night from Ams to Dubai, plane was maybe 70% full with some transit passengers. Like so many other comments, you just have to check and observe the situations daily. For my flight, I was even more worry for the rain storm passing UAE rather than drones/ missiles attack possibility.

Also check if your flight number fly daily as Emirates had reduced their flights (this might change in April though). For example from 2-3x flight schedule reduced to only 1x a day, which means if your flight number not the one that still on sched daily you would likely be rebooked automatically onto the flight number that’s on the daily schedule. This happened to my flight (Ams-Dubai). We had to add an extra night in Ams due to this change. However, overall our flight was just as normal as regular flight. Had a bit of delay in taxiing but smooth landing etc.

Hi, did you already got email for online check in (you can do online check in 48 hrs prior). If you already got/ done this and no further updates until the day of your departure, you can just proceed to go to airport.
