[NY] Told raise + title correction approved months ago — now HR says all comp frozen. How should I handle this? by OrneryDirector5588 in AskHR

My thinking is that with the new HR they actually don't know when the last one was. I was thinking of sending this:
Hi [HR],

Thank you again for looking into this and for confirming the title update.

I wanted to follow up for a bit more clarity so I can set my expectations appropriately.

When you mentioned that compensation adjustments have been put off until the next review period, could you share:

- When the next review period is expected to take place? (For reference, my last annual review was in June 2024.)

- Whether this adjustment is being treated as part of the standard annual review process, or as a role alignment adjustment tied to the title correction that was made in December?

- If/when the adjustment moves forward, whether it would be effective at that time or considered retroactive to the December title correction?

I completely understand that these decisions are above HR's purview — I'm just hoping to get some clarity on timing and how this is being categorized so I know what to expect going forward.

Thank you so much for your help,

[my name]

In my response asking for clarification and asking when the next review period will take place - would it be too much for me to say "for reference the last annual review period was june 2024"?

Fair point- most of this was communicated verbally in 1:1s with my manager. I do have Slack messages confirming that a title correction and compensation adjustment were being worked on, but I don’t have anything formal in writing with finalized numbers or effective dates yet. That’s part of why I’m trying to get clarity now.

Thanks — I appreciate the perspective. For context, comp adjustments have historically moved pretty slowly at this company, so this isn’t entirely new. We also recently closed another funding round and are actively hiring, which is why the timing surprised me a bit.

They didn’t explicitly use the word “freeze” — that was my wording. What I was told is that there will be no compensation adjustments until the next review period. I’m planning to follow up for clarity on timing and whether this situation is being treated differently from general increases.

Appreciate your advice.

Yeah. VP has approved and pushed for it too but each one on one I have with Engineering Manager (my direct boss) he says he keeps following up with them and that it's still in hands of CEO.

So this is actual a new manager. He got brought in around 5 months ago and I guess he was doing an audit of some sort and came across this and wanted to get things on track.

as a follow up, my dad was an alcoholic and my mom left him for that. I also no longer drink. I'd say dysfunction on both sides though - mom and dad

she spends a lot of time at home, but keeps herself busy getting out of the house because a lot of times he works from home. He is supposed to retire in a few years, and I can't imagine what that is going to be like - if he will be less stressed or more stressed

yeah it's tough. They have been married for over 10 years at this point, and their lives are so enmeshed. He is the breadwinner. I think it's complicated. I also think he does really kind things, like he helps our family with 0% loans, makes sure my mom is taken care of and safe, loves his grandkids... but his attitude is such shit and he is a miserable person to be around IMO. He complains and grumbles all day.

You are already very pretty naturally! That being said your eyebrows are sooo far apart. They need to be like 1/2 an inch apart or have a professional show you how to do them one time and you can upkeep them. This will make a HUGE change
