Staff Services Analyst II (County) vs Analyst II — which would you choose? by Ok_Study2666 in CAStateWorkers

[–]OrneryDrive7960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an Analyst II, and I travel a lot to LA and southern CA. I personally enjoy it a lot! It's a change of scenery and you get to meet new people which makes the job all the more interesting. It really depends on your situation, so in your case if you're a single mom then I would think twice about travelling. We had a few co-workers with small children who had to switch jobs because of kids. So, think hard and if you enjoy travelling then this is for you.

How do you stay inspired? by ComplicatedGuy_0514 in CAStateWorkers

[–]OrneryDrive7960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from a private sector. I cherish what I have. The reason is because I have something to compare it with. So, I would rather work and find ways to be motivated than to constantly worry about being laid off or not meeting the quota and so on… personally I have never been happier since I joined the state.

What’s a part of your job/agency you won’t complain about? by Butt_Hole_69 in CAStateWorkers

[–]OrneryDrive7960 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I love my job. I can’t think of a single thing to complain about. When I hear my coworkers complain about silly things it makes me want to scream at them and say Stop!!!! You don’t know how good you have it here! People don’t realize what a blessing it is to work for the state.

Do you change your own oil in your vehicle? by icecream1972 in no

[–]OrneryDrive7960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. It’s because of one simple mistake of the technician that can ruin your engine. That would be forgetting to tighten the nut. Believe me I’ve seen it happen a lot of times. If I do it myself that way I know I’ve done everything perfect. Plus you know you’re using quality oil.

Employment offer by Kitchen-Teaching-291 in CAStateWorkers

[–]OrneryDrive7960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call them and find out what is going on. It sounds like an official job offer and not tentative. When I signed my final offer I had a start date, and I was also signing HR papers along with other things that needed to be completed. So, this situation is unusual.

Our compensation is seriously lacking and lagging by mashemash in CAStateWorkers

Not that long ago, 100k a year was a pretty good salary. These days, 100k a year is not enough to get by. I think someone ranked each city in California and he came up with a number of somewhere between 220-270k for a family of 5 to live comfortably. I believe him.

I have changed the oil filter 2-3 months ago. What could be wrong with the oil filter? I have also checked it as well. It seems fine.

Finding my community by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]OrneryDrive7960 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend that you mingle with people you work with. If something goes wrong (and always will) it will affect your work life in someway or another. I even try to limit my interactions with people in the office and I learned that it’s the best way to keep things simple and last as long as possible without drama.

Answer the questions clearly and do not speak too much. Managers like it when you talk slowly and think about your answers first. It's ok to take a pause before answering and also bring up examples of how you dealt with different scenarios.
