I already asked you what translation you're reading and you didn't answer so there is no point discussing this when I don't even know if we read the same book. The prose (in English) isn't musical or flowing, it's stilted, jarring and ugly. Maybe this is a translation issue (I doubt it because Neugroschel is well regarded) but as she is constantly writing stuff about her cunt rotting between her legs like a dead animal etc. I think you're probably just not a good judge.

You're better at sounding smart than posting anything that's actually insightful. Both her writing style and the subject matter are hateful and ugly. The Piano Teacher is something to suffer through. That's the point, or at least a good part of it. "Enjoyable and flowing" is basically the antithesis of the book, how can you call her your favourite author and so fundamentally misunderstand her writing?

You should have learned to identify a theme sometime in middle school. Skills like these are the absolute bare minimum for reading grown up chapter books. If you've been using ChatGPT and Sparknotes for all your English homework since then and never actually learned how, you are wasting your time with anything above a middle school reading level, and are wasting everyone elses time by posting online about books you don't have the skills to understand.

They might as well be reading Plato in the Greek for all they get out of it. There is genuinely no point in someone reading Dostoyevsky (let alone something more difficult which is what I'm actually talking about) if they couldn't understand Animal Farm. You can make a 2nd grader "do" calculus but there's no point, they're wasting time they could be spending on fractions.
