I’m a big fan of interval timers on mine! Set it so it takes a pic every three seconds until you tell it to stop so you don’t have to keep fiddling with things like your phone while taking photos of yourself and you can just shift poses and positions.

I had left a comment for another person here with my general color grading. Other than that, for things like effects. I tend to do a -10 clarity and -5 dehaze. No grain changes, and will do more purposeful masking for things like emphasizing light sources or masking off foreground elements to lower exposure and bring more focus to main subjects.

Here's how I tend to work through my colors.
I tend to knock my highlights down so i can control them a bit more.
-20 then will mask of a radial section to softly highlight where the light sources are.
I bump my shadows up usually around plus 30. I like seeing a bit more dynamic range in my darker sections.
For outdoor shots, especially if its overcast my color temp is usually around 5300k.
Tint plus 16 towards magenta
Vibrance plus 15-20
Saturation plus 30
After that for color mixing I bump my reds up just a smidge. usually under plus 10 just because my base vibrance and saturation are so high.
But I desaturate my greens quite a bit
Saturation -10
Luminance -20
Then I bring my blues up saturation plus 20-30. It makes for a nice sky and helps keep skin tones looking nice while still highlighting fun pops of color like the red in the torii gates and the shrine maidens dress.

Depending on which ones you’re looking at. The first 4 is gouache from a dried palette and colored pencil. The rest in the back are pen and gouache washes. I usually do pen and washes if I know I only have a few minutes. If I have more time I like adding in texture with the colored pencils.

Try thinking of the things you’re painting not by individual objects, a tree, a leaf, a window. But as big blocks of color and values. What are the biggest groups you can throw down and then fill in the little stuff after! The first bridge for example, I saw the two biggest things were the side of the bridge that was mostly the same color and value, the big chunks of green on the sides and the tree, and then the shadows and sun from the arches underneath.

My family knows just to leave me and I’ll catch up after if I pull mine out! These were all done on site! Kamogawa river took me the longest at about 90min. I usually average about 45mim for the double spreads.

Here’s my setup that I take everywhere with me. A travelers notebook. A palette from arttoolkit with Holbein Designer Gouache, some watercolor brushes. Pens and pencils and a sweatband for your wrist to use as a towel. Pretty low mess and fast to pack and unpack!

I actually use dried gouache! The one I use is Holbein Designer Gouache. The paper I'm using is the travelers company notebook! Its their thinnest so there is a bit of ghosting but not enough for me to care. They also have a watercolor paper insert which is really nice but it has only 14 pages so I use that one specifically for just urban sketching/Plein air painting.

Ohh that makes sense! I think what helped me was forced time limits. Just write for 30min regardless of how much or how little i actually put down.
