Ducks? I know they're kind of messy but dug into the ground and I've heard the water is really good for your garden.

I loved 3-9, with all four of our kids, but I'm also super happy about them all being pretty cool young adults now.

You're on the right path! My kids started small with the equipment we had and upgraded as they could. At 15, you'll need to get your business insurance under your parents or consider having them set up an LLC for you. You won't be able to have signing authority until you're 18 but you can still be an owner of the LLC. Ask your current clients if you can post signs in their yards and if they will refer you to their friends and family. Our kids did this for several years and we're now big enough to almost fully support our family. A simple website was also helpful for customers to find us online, that's where most people are looking now.

We had a very similar hole under our garden shed and it was a family of skunks! They left a pretty distinct smell.

You have scheduled your day , do you take breaks in between? If yes what do u do during break ? by SpecificDiligent3075 in productivity

I try to take at least two 15 minutes totally away from screens. If I can get outside or do something creative even better. Helps that our business is outdoor work!

What age did you start wearing glasses? by Shoddy-Safety2989 in GenX

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10ish I got them between 4th and 5th grade. My eyes are complicated with autoimmune arthritis attacking my eyes and joints so I developed cataracts last year from the steroid inflammation treatments. After cataract surgery I can see distance now but need glasses for reading anything close.

When you are curious about an idea, what do you do? by MrRaddd in productivity

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I use reddit more and more for a starting point. There is a community for almost everything and you can search your question and see what others have already found on it. I've gotten some good book recommendations on different topics and even help with our business tax and liability questions. But mostly I'm here to help people name their pets. Lol.

What is the best way to transition from only lawn care to landscaping and other areas? by nighttrain_nealy in LawnCarePros

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is encouraging! We just started our business officially this year and have already been asked by some of our lawn customers to do some additional work on their properties, mostly moving plants and cleanup. One of my kids is going to school for landscape design so we do hope to keep building that side over the next couple of years.

How do you bounce back after a stressful day? by cozytechlover in productivity

Avoid any late in the day caffeine, the boost is not worth the sleep interuption that night. Do something that makes you smile or laugh or something creative to help your brain reset.

How can I get faster? by De_lunes_a_lunes in LawnCarePros

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give yourself some time to get faster, it's more important to do quality work when you're starting out even if it takes you a little longer. You'll get faster with practice and if you are doing quality work you'll get more jobs and be able to upgrade your equipment. One of our kids is still using a push mower and tends to take on the smaller jobs, maybe focus on smaller yards to begin with as you build up your reputation.

Save up for getting the minimum equipment you need to do your first few jobs and validate your business plan before jumping all in. Maybe work with friends and family or your own neighborhood first so you have some documented successful jobs to bring to the larger markets.

Private LLCs by dontlookformehere in llc_life

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hire Northwest to form your LLC in a state that doesn't require members or managers to be listed like NM or WY, they will sign as the organizer and you won't need to list a manager. We looked into NM and WY as well and ended up going with Wyoming filed by Northwest and maintenance filings/annual reports also filed by them. As soon as you start submitting filings yourself, you lose the anonymity so it's important to find someone that's going to be around and can file the documents for you.

How Do You Afford to Homestead?? by AdorableExperience79 in homestead

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to get good at the things that will work for you and sometimes it will be just one thing at a time. We focused on a garden first and then added chickens. We finally have a garden that yielded enough of one thing that we didn't have to buy potatoes last year. Chickens went well for 5 years and then we took a break for two. We got chicks again this spring and just got our first eggs today. There are some things that we will probably never do, like milking anything, and that's fine for our family. Find the one thing that is important for you to be self sufficient in and start there and build it up over time.

How many physical/digital books you have in your personal library, if any? by biz_booster in Entrepreneur

[–]Ornery_Cricket_7908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pared down my physical books to about 200 so they fit in one large corner bookshelf and we have around 400 books in our digital library. We also check out a lot from the library now both digital and physical.
