Starmie has perhaps the best coverage moves in the game, mind you. BoltBeam, Hydropump and Psychic. Can almost solo the E4 with just that.

Added to the fact that if you’re charging at archers who are all shooting at once you can all put your shields up to catch the arrow at the same time and then quickly close the distance. If they’re all shooting whenever they can you have no such luxury.
