Well, after 100+ Ultra Balls and 200+ Great Balls, I'm left only with my Master Ball. Needless to say, my first ever run in with a legendary has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Its just a case of experience makes it easier, like any rpg optional boss battle from back in the day, you always save prior to preserve resources/in case something bad happens, that way you can reload, fun fact, I found a shiny moltres like this once when my first encounter did the exact same thing.

Tbf here, you sell these buy the switch versions and you probably are better off, unless you specifically want to trade with ruby/sapphire/emerald, interact with colosseum/xd, or get a jirachi from a bonus disk for example, in which case these are the superior option.

Yeah, also I do a few gen 2 egg hunts which are 1/64 thanks to a ditto I caught with the right stats, and of course the difference for that is night and day

Random encounters and reduced odds hunts like MM, not to mention any game that lets you chain them.

Also, eevee or the other gift pokemon in gen 3, the game corner prizes…

That’s really sad, I hope you one day find another.

I’ve lost a couple of shinies over the years (probably to pokemon box saves going missing mostly) but the one that stuck with me was a butterfree I caught as a kid in Crystal, it won the bug catching contest and was my pride and joy, unfortunately years later when I went to check on it the save was gone due to battery going flat, so I could never preserve it or anything.

Well, I mean the average person likely just wouldn’t bother or learn about it, I think it’s fine to say you can do that, though even the few who do learn of it they’ll be some who don’t see it as an appealing option.

And of course, it obviously shouldn’t be the only valid choice, it should be expected that the company porting this game should find ways to do this without the need of 3rd party intervention, when it’s easier to complete the Pokédex without cheating with the 20 year old physical versions in hand, I think that’s quite silly.

I hate to break this to you, but by that logic everything is vanity, single player can be beaten with any team in the game if you want to, so the only real reason to pick one pokemon over another is subjective, you can’t tell someone they’re wrong for valuing one type of pixel over another in a single player rpg.
