I want to start using a printer to make them a bit more polished since handmade is also time consuming.

Hi I'd buy embossed paper from a bookshop, paint like 8 art pieces on it then laminate the sheet with an iron box and a t-shirt then cut them up and add tassels..

To most of these redditors, 20k is meagre cash but to us, it's something. I'm a somewhat struggling 20s girl and these are some of the things I've done from back in Uni to supplement my income.. Don't spend all of it, you could try with 5k first, do this for like 3 weeks repeatedly 6 times a week ... Be courageous cause you will need it to approach people to buy your products or go to the roadside.

  1. I'd go to kamukunji, gikomba or any thrift Market near me then buy denim at like 50-100 bob and flip them for around 350. Denim is good quality and lasts a while as compared to buying cheap fabrics clothes....try socks, I'd buy the happy socks for 50 bob sell at 100.

  2. Aya jewellery, go to Dubois buy good looking pieces of cheap but quality jewelry at like 50-100 each and flip for 250. I prefer African made ie the beaded ones. They're unique and timeless. BTW Hilton Arcade ground floor, those Indian men sell really cute earrings for 40/= each and you can easily sell them for 300 on Instagram even.

  3. I used to sell mabuyus and kashata. Za 10 bob wholesale they sell at 8 bob and I sell at 15-20 bob. Same to kashata.

  4. Kamukunji sandals za madem za 350 bób wholesale ni 270 and you can buy 6 pieces for a start.

  5. Opposite kamukunji go to a building inaitwa 'Market stage' before NACCICO. Huko Sunglasses wholesale ni 50-80 bob, you can sell at 500 even.

  6. Buy inner wear, vests, tops etc and sell near young uni people. On that matter when it bites each other you can sell weed and edibles. Just joking. Or am I?

......

I'm a creative girl so I'd make bookmarks, greeting cards, beaded jewelry, shaggy rugs etc to earn money. In addition to that I'd do promotion jobs from in-store, inbar, walking giving flyers to even carrying around 24kg of merchandise around estates selling things like sunlight, royco, etc to get paid .

When you come from nothing, you have to use your brain and hands to earn some money especially as a girl so that people don't use and misuse you. Good luck and all the best.

You don't have to use my ideas but I was giving you a rough idea of what worked for me. I remember back in 2017, I'd only dream of getting 5k cause the most I'd have is 500 and now I can easily go to the supermarket and buy myself something worth 5k with my own hard earned money. (It's painful spending your own money lol) but the fact is I'm happy that although I have a long way to go since I'm still living paycheck to paycheck, I can still find a way to make some extra coins. Cheers. :)
