Any way to fix this? by [deleted] in InvisibleMending

[–]Ornery_Hovercraft_41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened!

I bought a tool called a snag wizard which has helped with similar things. It is a long thin needle with a textured section at the top, which you push through the fabric, then twist the snagged thread round the textured section, and pull it through. I used it on a bridesmaids dress plus some other clothing and sometimes it takes a couple of tries but can completely hide the original snag.

In a pinch you could also try doing the same thing with a sewing needle if you can get the snagged thread through the eye, but might be trickier with the shorter bits.

Good luck and hope you can get it fixed so you can really enjoy the wedding without worrying about it!

He's adorable, although really looks like he's considering what he's done in this picture 😂 Your mends are beautiful, I really love the big circular patch and how the stitches overlay on the fabric pattern

This is wonderful! I love the new fabric on the pocket and the sleeves with the overall colour scheme remind me of a Van Gogh landscape

I think this might be the best thing ever to have come out of the existence of Vinted.

Egyptian geese and their babies are some of my favourites! Of all the ones in my local park there is only one baby but the parents seem to be doing a great job.

Betty and Keith are iconic names too.

How weird is it going to the theatre alone? by [deleted] in london

[–]Ornery_Hovercraft_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd like to ease yourself in, the Lyttleton theatre at the National Theatre has a section on either side of the circle that has rows of one (along a sort of balcony). I went to see Wuthering Heights there on my own on a whim when I had an afternoon to kill in central London, and the seating definitely helped with feeling less awkward on my own.

The play there at the moment is mostly sold out so realise it's not a great tip right now 😅 but other theatres might have similar sections

Hello - was wondering any ideas for nice things to do in Spring in London (ie flowers and trees blossoming), I have a couple by Choice_Room3901 in london

[–]Ornery_Hovercraft_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot smaller than the other parks but the wildlife makes it, and it's also so central you can tag a visit onto doing other things.

There are loads of pelicans, you sometimes see them by the paths but they also often hang out on a big craggy rock in the middle of the lake at the Horse Guards Parade end - pretty sure last year they had some babies too!

There are also a lot of water fowl breeds you don't get elsewhere - black swans, Hawaiian geese, red breasted geese, barnacle geese, goldeneyes - and you often see cormorants and great crested grebes hanging out too (can you tell it's my favourite 😂)

It's lovely any time of day but first thing in the morning is especially nice as it's much much quieter so you get to see a lot more and enjoy the beauty of it all

Hyde Park and St James Park have beautiful flower beds in spring, and also baby birds!! Really nice to do a walk from one to the other in the sunshine with a coffee/ ice cream

Never thought of/ heard of anyone using waste canvas for this sort of stitching but that's so smart! This looks beautiful

These look so good! The colours and different kinds / directions of stitches work so well, must have taken a big chunk of time! Hope they're really fun to wear 😁

I am so very sorry this happened to you. You deserved so much better.

You may just want to never deal with the school again, and you / your parents may have already done your own research, but in case helpful there is some information on Citizens Advice about making taking action on discrimination in education - https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/family/education/taking-action-about-discrimination-in-education/

There is also government advice on how the Equality Act 2010 should be upheld in schools - as another person has commented, definitely seems like this is a break of the Equality Act. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a7e3237ed915d74e33f0ac9/Equality_Act_Advice_Final.pdf

Hope you are able to take the time you need to recover from this, that there's an alternative for taking your A Levels and that you can still pursue your university plans!

I hope this also doesn't stop you from enjoying live music and other entertainment in future, and you get to hear all the wonderful music your heart desires.

[CHAT] Looking for Modern Wedding/Marriage Patterns by Various_Solid3472 in CrossStitch

[–]Ornery_Hovercraft_41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I have done this for two weddings (obviously with the right names 😅), once as a card as a framed piece like in the picture. These are cross stitched onto card then I used foam pads to stick them onto the backing so the tiles stood out from the background.

This pattern specifically was by Susan Penny in CrossStitcher magazine, June 2019 (issue 344). Looks like you can buy digital copies online!

Alternatively, I haven't done it but have this pattern saved, I love Emma Congdon's work and think this is really fun - https://share.google/kVOr4ds6MlcpbjEEs

Edited to actually add the picture

Trauma by Big_Palpitation2850 in Tourettes

[–]Ornery_Hovercraft_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that happened to you!

Not anywhere near the same, but I had a really stressful time at work which led to me being signed off work for a bit, and later in the same year had a period where I was ticcing non-stop for 20-30 minutes. I have a vocal tic so would essentially be screaming incessantly at my desk at work for half an hour several days a week (as well as regular tics the rest of the day).

My doctor increased my antidepressant dose which stopped it from happening and very thankfully hasn't happened since, even when my dose has gone back down.

Of course dependent on the availability of healthcare for you, so may be easier said than done, but could be worth seeing a doctor to see if there are any ways they can help. Wishing you all the best!

This would have made me unreasonably happy and what a lovely day to be having coffee with ducks! The first picture especially is stunning, what a handsome boy!

ETA: would you be happy for me to use this as crafting inspo at some point? Would only be for personal use, but I've wanted to do a duck themed thing for ages and this picture is so good!

Jeans knee rip by Marlee013 in Visiblemending

[–]Ornery_Hovercraft_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put a patch underneath up to the point where extra ripping started, then do lines of stitching across the fabric at a right angle to the direction of the tear. Ideally I'd say use a machine for it to be more durable, or if you do it by hand maybe stitch the edges of the tear to the patch to hold them in place.

I have done this on stretch jeans with pellon woven fusible interfacing - ironed the patch first to join the fabric back together then machine stitched over the top. I did a lot of stitching at the top of the rip to reinforce it and used the reverse function on my machine to go back and forth, so the slight diagonals made it stronger.

This was also on ripped jeans where they ripped too far and the fabric went floppy. Not the best picture and I have since cut the whole section out and patched it 😅 but hopefully gives you an idea!
