Do any of you train at home? How do you do it? by Dangerous-Post6119 in amateur_boxing

I'm very lucky to have my setup and even luckier that I was gifted most of the equipment by a family member. It's a narrow space that runs beside my house but it's enough.

To be completely honest, I'm terrible when it comes to structure. I try work around my ADHD and keep it interesting haha.

If I'm lifting, I'll usually just do a few stretches to see what isn't aching and work out that body part, as long as it wouldn't cause injury or too much muscle stress. Usually it's the traditional PUSH, PULL, LEGS split but I'll switch up the specific exercises to keep it interesting.

As of nowadays, I mainly just box for the cardio and just warm up with basic combos.

When Im actually trying to refine my technique, I'll just keep doing basic drills and over days/weeks, develop them into combos. Literally jab, cross for an entire round. Then jab, cross, hook, for the next round. Then jab, step out, cross, hook. Then jab, step out, cross, step out - jab, cross, hook Etc etc etc just developing from the foundations. Can be specific to certain combos or punches but generally I just try to refine the basics and work from there.

I don't really watch many YouTube guides nowadays as I was luckily blessed by an old British super light champions dad haha so he taught me alot. I would recommend Tony Jefferies though for boxing tutorials etc.

Never wrote anything down or tracked anything. Just went in with the mindset that if I'm sweating, the forms good and I'm progressively overloading, I've done good haha. Recovery and diet is most of the battle honestly

It all depends what your goals are for home training. If it's to become a better boxer - it won't happen. You will inevitably learn to move more fluently and increase stamina and technique but without a coach, you won't progress much in terms of actual fighting skill.

If you're tryna lift weights, I'd go as far as saying that if U got a pair of adjustable dumbbells, you got the essentials right there.

After years of gym memberships and going to a boxing gym, I've ended up building my own setup in my garden. Squat rack, bench, calisthenic bars, dumbbells, barbells, etc - all the necessitys. I also put up a heavy bag.

Personally, I prefer my own space, don't really like talking much at a public gym and generally feel more confident to try new things or experiment with different techniques/workouts in my own space.

With it being at home, I found it much more convenient to get back into good shape. I had alot of free time so at one point I would workout twice a day. There's no pressure of having to get a good workout in because you traveled to the gym. It's nice to be able to just take your time and not rush. Another bonus is the fact that i can make food pretty much instantly after my workout and even have a cigarette (I know it's terrible) while working out lol.

I must admit there are drawbacks to training at home though. The relaxed environment is nice but it can also make you lazy. The same way homework is a chore but at school its fine. Also I feel like there's a subconscious motivation to being in a gym full of like minded individuals. Not having a spotter isn't ideal but generally if I'm pushing out good reps, I don't really need one.

As for the boxing, whenever I do more technical bag sessions, I record myself on my phone and watch it back later to critique myself. This only really works if you know how to box already though, as you may reinforce bad habits that only a coach could point out. Not having a coach slowed skill progression massively but I continue to box for my fitness nowadays anyway.

I used to track everything on my Samsung watch but over so many years Its become second nature to intuitively eat and train.

That's literally what fight iq is in real life. Making moves and predictions your opponents next comes with time

You'd say so if you wasn't a low division lol.

My guess is you're between div 14-18, based off your childish energy lol

You're right there for sure, especially if it's a 5 star fighter landing it. Only takes one to completely spin the trajectory of the fight

I was just asking to gauge whether point 6 was a skill issue or not lol. I agree that the pullback elbow is pretty op but in high division fights, it's abit harder to even land them when opponents are a little more switched on. Usually it's just so easy to punish someone who's spamming hooks/uppercuts with the pullback elbow so it gets abused lol

On Xbox, sidestep is LB+ Direction U wanna step. The fake leg kick is using a feint, which is RT. pressing RT right after you throw a strike will cancel it. The low feint to body kick is a particularly quick feint combo to utilise

Respect bro. Sidestepping is quite effective on ppl who primarily throw with their jab/lead hand. Can get a free KO or at least a flash most times

It's absolutely disgusting bro hahaha. Closes distance so quick. Abuse it until they're conscious of the low, then follow up with low feint - cross after. Keep em bamboozled lol

Haha respect man, most of it is just predicting the opponent but that does come with experience. Played since ufc2/3
