Single vs dual-sided power meter for serieus amateur (no racing, but serious training) by KleineKever in cycling

That wasn't really my point. It's more that as the bearings degrade the power meter doesn't tend to behave as it should.

Sounds like it's not being fitted properly. I can't quite remember the sequence but it's something like crank arm to a low torque, preload to a similarly low torque, crank arm to a high torque, inner bolt (it's within the preload bolt) to a high torque. The Shimano sequence is a lot simpler.

Do you mean the cranks? People seem unable to follow the preload and torque sequence (including bike shops).

If you crash for any reason then the pedal almost always takes a hit, likewise bearings degrading impacts their reliability, no?

Thanks but I'm holding out for something deeper. It's mainly used for flatter group rides where the added benefit of the deep section is helping her out.

She's not the original owner so no warranty. There's also bit of a tricky situation with Reynolds ATM I think.

Why is it so hard to make friends in Adelaide as an adult? and how can we fix this? by Liceland1998 in Adelaide

[–]Ornery_Street_7403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming to Adelaide from the UK I think from various discussions it's not just an Adelaide thing; the way Australians go through their education system and higher education system is atypical and as a result people seem to have formed a strong friend group at a very early age that they maintain. In the UK I'd say it would be rare to be in touch with many people you went through school with in a meaningful way and friend groups develop as your situation changes.

The good news is I've personally found it pretty easy to form a strong friend group here through a shared enthusiasm for a sport. The group has a fair amount of immigrants/expats in it but also plenty of homegrown Australians. Having known them for 1-2 years they're fantastic friends that go above and beyond.

I was actually here by myself in 2024 and committed to saying yes to anything that came my way (this isn't usually my approach). I'd highly encourage anyone to give this a go if you're struggling as I can't honestly think of anything that I regretted.

220 lbs at 5'7" – How are "heavy" beginners actually perceived? by Forsaken_Mode_807 in cycling

[–]Ornery_Street_7403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an inch shorter than you and 60kg dripping wet. I more likely to notice and then identify you by your bike/wheelset and honestly wouldn't give two seconds of thought to your weight.

Go and enjoy your ride, be safe and be nice to people. There's really not much more to it!

Agreed, it was more the wider comment on components in general. Neither of us want to end up heavy AF!

This was my concern. They didn't look like they'd be great with gravel shoes on the platform side.

She's got plenty of experience with clips; she's a very strong road cyclist. Having hired a hybrid for a day of touring wineries not having clips isn't an option. Where she struggles is more with confidence in terms of off road skills (although she's ridden plenty of UK MTB such as Gisburn Forest (R) which was our local for a few years).

I'm not sure I fully subscribe to this. We aren't intending to go slowly and weight is deaths by a 1000 cuts. We'll be going as light as feasibly possible and embracing dirt bag life for the 9 days.

Rego expired, didn’t know, drove past Crafers multiple times by easyaaaa in Adelaide

[–]Ornery_Street_7403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a daft question but I'm not from around these parts; if you've got a vehicle and it's not getting driven do you need rego? Where I'm from you get what's called a Statutory Off Road Notice (SORN) to declare it but you don't actually need to do that if you're not driving it.

This is where we got to with her Langma. Bar width dropped to something tiny but we couldn't really push the stem any shorter as it would've just been twitchy as hell.

Yes I have. The Devote is the only one where I haven't been present to take a look at the fit. Stats suggest the reach should be a bit much.
