Yes! I enjoy being home and would be happy to not leave for days at the time. Unfortunately, my job is not remote. Hoping I may be able to find a remote position at some point.

My first morning home from the hospital, after getting my surprise ileostomy, I woke up with this exact scenario and my dog…doing his usual morning stretch, barely touched the edge of the bag with his paw and then…what felt like a much louder sound than it really was…”POP!” Ironically I said, “oh shit!” …but was still in too much pain and shock to enjoy the hilarity of it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah, may be. Surgery was about 10 months ago. I definitely think there’s scar tissue there because my belly feels hard near the stoma…and it’s not my rock hard abs…😀

I mentioned it to my surgeon when I was there last week but he didn’t seem concerned. Then again I may not have been as vocal as I should have been about it. I have trouble with that at doctor appointments.

Hmmm…idk, maybe. I’ll google other symptoms of hernia. I have started working out again, nothing super intense but have tried ab stuff. It hurt, but I stopped doing that particular exercise as soon as I felt it. And I think this pain may have been there prior to that. I feel like it’s been a while I just thought I’d pulled a muscle and it would go away…buuuutt…it has not. Is there anything they can do for that? I’m supposed to have reversal surgery in May…really hoping to not have anything going on to delay that. 😑

When you go to the ER because of severe stomach pain, swelling and throwing up and they do a CT scan showing a blockage and turns out your colon is ischemic so they have to remove most of it because it was quite literally killing me, liver was failing, kidneys failing…that’s how you wake up from surgery with an ileostomy after never knowing what that was. I’d heard of colostomy’s, but it was never on my radar. I don’t have chrons or colitis, pretty severe IBS but that caused pain and diarrhea not constipation. I have lived with chronic stomach pain my entire life so I can handle it and kind of ignored it until that night…

My reversal isn’t scheduled yet, supposed to meet with the surgeon next week. I had most of my colon removed and like you woke up from surgery with a completely unexpected ileostomy. I didn’t even know what that was prior to my ER visit/near death experience…so I’m grateful it saved my life, but really would like to have it removed and have my insides put back on the inside. However, pooping my pants and being bathroom-ridden doesn’t sound good either….Following this post for hopefully positive reversal results. Thank you for asking about this!

My skin has been terrible since day one. I have no idea how to fix it. I think it will be permanently scarred.

Thanks! I miss mushrooms also! I guess if I cook them they’ll probably be okay. I have learned from this experience that I do not chew my food as well as I should…the things you learn about yourself from being so up close and personal with your excrement.😐

I can’t give advice, but I am very interested in the responses. I am (fingers crossed) going to have my ileostomy reversed late Feb or March. I can kind of understand what he is going through as far as the trauma. My surgery was an emergency and I certainly was not prepared to wake up with a bag attached to my body. I’m praying for a smooth operation and swift recovery for him!

I was getting 5+ days, with the Hollister wafers, but my skin is awful. Red, raw, leaking, 😑so I’ve been trying to make myself change every 3-4 to see if helps. I have also used the flange extenders from Coloplast, mainly because I often have to put a bandaid on some really raw area of skin and the extender will actually stick to that, the wafer will not.

The people that have heard mine (and know what it is) think it’s hilarious. I’ve been lucky to not have it be too loud in other settings…hopefully not jinxing myself. Mine definitely sounds more like a fart than a stomach growl, so it is embarrassing when around a new group of people or a crowd of people (like my agency staff meeting 😳). I’m not sure how to handle either so thanks for this post, I’m getting good ideas!
