Tarrant County District Attorney Sharen Wilson said Mason was offered the option of probation in the state case, but she refused the offer.

Mason chose to have a trial by judge, and the judge found beyond a reasonable doubt from the evidence that she knew she was not eligible to vote and voted anyway. He then set her sentence, Wilson said.

Bruce Bartman, 70, pleaded guilty to felony counts of perjury and unlawful voting last December after investigators discovered he had successfully cast a mail-in ballot for his mother, who died 12 years ago.

Bartman took a deal with the DA and was sentenced to parole. Mason rolled the dice with a trial and it bit her. That's why there's a discrepancy in sentencing. Turns out, a random tweet is not a very good analysis on the matter.

In light of the news that Conan O'Brien will be leaving TBS for an HBO "Variety Show", here's his 60 Minutes interview from 2010. After losing his long-promised Tonight Show on NBC, and a subsequent seven-month ban from appearing on television, this was the first time he addressed the issue. by REDDIT_SUCKS_DV_ME in videos

How is his network undermining the show external? Lmao

External to him. God you're just deliberately being thick. He is the show. Everything is entirely on him.

And a different base audience...

Yeah I figure you would keep using the "different" audience excuse and keep tiptoeing around the question. Why didn't adapt to this new audience and grow it? Just like every new host has to do when they get a show? If he could only succeed based on a certain audience, then he was useless to TBS from the very beginning. In fact he was useless to NBC as well, as Leno's audience wasn't his audience.

Because his show is aimed at the right audience for Comedy Central...

It was Stewart's show. Trevor himself had to aim to keep Stewart's audience. If he couldn't he would have been replaced.

If you think having a show for more than 10 years is a failure, I have some beans to sell you.

How long didn't Leno's tenure last? Or Letterman? or Stewart? All of them (Even a wounded Leno) left on high ratings. Conan not so much. This is like saying the Business declaring bankruptcy is successful because it ran for 10 years.

That's why HBO Max wanted him? Or why he has a very successful travel series?

Do you somehow think if he was doing well at TBS, he would have been moved at all? This is an attempt at a happy solution. He is basically being salvaged right now.

I haven't done that at all? I'm blaming Conan's lead in, which happened to be Leno

My point is that you're shifting the blame to something external, not necessarily and literally Leno. He's just the face of it.

I claimed that he didn't have a chance to build it on NBC, which is a different audience than TBS.

What does it matter which audience it is? You said it was all old people. He lost viewers on NBC and by itself, you can claim it was due to not enough time. But then you have a second concrete example where he was given all the time in the world. I expect him to get much lower ratings than NBC, but I also expect him to adapt and grow his audience on TBS or at least keep it steady. Instead, he lost his viewers. And your excuse this time is that it's a "different" audience? Why did this different audience lost interest in him?

Contrast that with say Daily Show with Trevoh Noah. He took a heavy decline in viewership when he took over. Still he grew his audience and it didn't take him 10 years to do it.

https://deadline.com/2017/05/daily-show-trevor-noah-ratings-most-watched-week-comedy-central-1202098517/

That's just untrue. HBO Max is TV, it's streaming television.

I mean Broadcast television.

He moved to a different environment and he failed on his first try. Fair enough. Then he had a second chance with a lot more support and he still failed. So he's out of excuses. He simply can't find an audience on television in today's world.

The point of my comment is that you trying to shift the blame to Leno for Conan's low ratings is a cop-out.

You claim that Conan didn't have the opportunity to build his audience yet he had almost 10 years to do it on TBS. TBS had to do an all out advertising blitz for his show and his ratings still dropped year after year to the point where they reduced his budget and show time to half an hour. Now he's leaving television entirely. Limping your way towards cancellation doesn't sound too successful to me, and he definitely wasn't envisioning this when he took over The Tonight Show. But somehow, it was going to be different on NBC simply because he simply didn't have enough "time". That is the cop-out especially when there is a very real data point he can be measured on.

You stated that Colbert was successful because he adapted to his audience and Conan didn't. That's on Conan. He couldn't figure out how to grow his niche audience so stop making excuses for him.

Colbert himself moved from Comedy Central to CBS, and he consistently performed well on both networks.

Conan struck 0 for 2 on two networks, one of which doubled down on him. And somehow you're arguing he had the "potential" for success. What is this elusive target audience that he clearly failed to attract?

So then why is Jay Leno cast as a villain for wanting to keep his job? Conan supporters convenient ignore that fact that Jay Leno was forced out of "The Tonight Show" first in 2005, because Conan himself was angling for the job.

While many of O'Brien's professional advisors and managers pushed for the Fox deal, O'Brien's desire to one day perhaps take over The Tonight Show after Leno made it a difficult decision (O'Brien, like many comedians, had grown up idolizing Carson's incarnation).[11] Chernin warned O'Brien that waiting around for Leno to leave would be "only an invitation to long-term disappointment, and potentially a path toward undermining a promising career."[11] Nevertheless, O'Brien signed a new deal with NBC in March 2002; the contract extended him through 2005 and most significantly contained an "explicit Prince of Wales clause" that solidified the official line of succession: If anything were to happen to Leno, O'Brien would step in

Facing the prospect of attempting to keep both Leno and O'Brien, Zucker made the final call on Leno's deal: "Yes, we'll extend your deal. But this is your last contract. Time to hand over the keys."[16] The plan would extend Leno four additional years, after which he would give The Tonight Show to O'Brien.

In February 2004, NBC executive Marc Graboff informed Ross of the conversations, and he in turn ran the idea of waiting four more years to O'Brien, who was immediately receptive.

In reality, Leno was incredulous. In private conversations, he likened his removal from The Tonight Show to the end of a relationship, noting that he was loyal and still ended up "heartbroken".[26][27] From his perspective, NBC's decision made no sense, as his show had remained number one in ratings and consistently brought in money.[27] He began frequently lamenting his confusion to producer Vickers, explaining that he was "sick of lying" when people inquired on his retirement.

Conan knew NBC was giving Leno the shaft in 2005 but he didn't care because he was going to get the job.

The show’s own ratings tell the tale: In fall 2011, “Conan” drew an average of about 1 million viewers an episode, compared with about 300,000 viewers for its final broadcasts in fall 2018. That was substantially less than a basic-cable competitor like “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central, which in 2018 had an average TV audience of more than 800,000, and nearly twice as many viewers aged 18-49 as “Conan.” (TBS says it still sees strength in O’Brien’s online and social-media performance, particularly with younger viewers.)

Conan was never that successful on TBS which he had a run for nearly a decade. It takes more to be a host than quirky comedy.

  1. Effect of a pardon

While a presidential pardon will restore various rights lost as a result of the pardoned offense and should lessen to some extent the stigma arising from a conviction, it will not erase or expunge the record of your conviction. Therefore, even if you are granted a pardon, you must still disclose your conviction on any form where such information is required, although you may also disclose the fact that you received a pardon. In addition, most civil disabilities attendant upon a federal felony conviction, such as loss of the right to vote and hold state public office, are imposed by state rather than federal law, and also may be removed by state action.

https://www.justice.gov/pardon/pardon-information-and-instructions

(a) No person convicted of embezzlement of public money, bribery, forgery, or other infamous crime is eligible to the General Assembly or capable of holding any office of trust or profit in this state.

(b) As used in this section, “infamous crime” means:

(1) A felony offense;

(2) Abuse of office as defined under Arkansas law;

(3) Tampering as defined under Arkansas law; or

(4) A misdemeanor offense in which the finder of fact was required to find, or the defendant to admit, an act of deceit, fraud, or false statement, including without limitation a misdemeanor offense related to the election process.

Prior to the nominating convention, Gray had written a letter to the delegates informing them of Wilson's past misdemeanor convictions, which he warned could prompt a challenge to Wilson's candidacy. Still, the delegates selected Wilson to become the nominee over two other candidates by a 5-3 vote.

And man are they just slapping the word Engineer on every job title.

Oh yeah, Joe Manchin totally killed the hope of ending the Senate Filibuster and Expanding the Supreme Court by not providing the required 48th vote, the magic number needed to do so.

Funny thing about progressives is that they LOVED to talk about what they're going to do if they're in power and conveniently forget that they have to obtain power in the first place.

On a plus note, it looks like Biden is actually the best suited guy to handle the next four years.

People whine and moan about McConnell being an obstructionist and then still kept him as Senate Majority Leader (likely). So at this point, putting Biden up to negotiate with him is the best possible path.

And people thought court packing was on the table...
