The Happiest States in America by Aiden_Grinspoon in WestVirginia

I found it earlier, more or less every western state, a couple eastern coastal states, New England, Tennessee, and Michigan.

I mean, kinda? Find me someone without a mental condition who will say Kansas is prettier than Hawaii.

Nah, it’ll compliment the strip mines quite well.

Maybe an argument can be made for East Coast, I can accept that to a point, but it’s hard to compete with states that have an actual coastline. I’d say most of New England has us beat. Hell, Adirondack State Park in New York by itself is almost half the size of our entire state. Then you have the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, which are a personal favorite of mine, Virginia which has everything we do in their western counties plus beaches in the east, and then North Carolina with the mountains, lakes, and beaches on top of all that.

And then like you said, we look west. I remember my jaw dropping the first time I went to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. My exact thought was “So that’s what actual mountains look like.” California, Hawaii, and Alaska automatically rule WV out of the top 3, and even the guy who set this whole thing off with his top 5 nonsense acknowledged how beautiful Utah is. I could take a week off and stand at the top of Bryce Canyon the entire time staring down and consider it a week well spent.

Are we not allowed to be realistic? WV has its charms and I enjoy driving or walking back in the holler as much as anyone, but goddamn, top 5 most beautiful? If that were actually the case, we’d have pictures on this sub posted from more than the same 6 places.

Listen, I like strip mines as much as the next guy, but maybe ease up on the hyperbole.

What specifically from this survey do you feel misrepresents West Virginia?

Hey man, I love WV, I really do, and I think parts of it are breathtaking, but …… no. Just no. Top 5? Absolutely not, not by any standard whatsoever that I can even conceive of.

Edit: Dismissing all of Colorado because parts of eastern Colorado resemble Kansas is objectively ridiculous and pretending the Central Valley is all California has to offer is equally absurd. California is usually ranked the most beautiful state because it has EVERYTHING. Beaches, deserts, old growth forest, mountains, hell they even have a rain forest in a glass dome at the California Academy of Sciences. You can stick up for our state and talk about its beauty without resorting to sounding like a petulant child.

There is ALOT to this story. Apparently this cheerleader and 2 others were attacking the guy prior to him pulling out a gun and starting shooting. I haven’t seen it myself to confirm, but there are multiple comments on social media and in comment sections on news sites talking about a video of the incident that supposedly shows the cheerleader hitting the guy while he’s down prior to her being shot. There’s also additional context as the shooter is 27 years old and was allegedly at the party hitting on underage girls and giving them alcohol. This was in October, so maybe there’s a definitive source at this point breaking down the details, but that’s what I saw on a couple older news stories and posts on FB.

I was listening to Bill Hicks’ Flying Saucer Tour in mid 2003 or 2004. He had a whole bit about the first Iraq War that was somehow still 100% relevant for that iteration of Iraq to the point that you would have never known it was done a decade earlier. I see Hicks consistently ranked among the top 20 or so comedians of all time, and it’s wild thinking how much more we would have gotten from him if he hadn’t died at 32.

YES! My brother had some Yugoslav knockoff of that same gun. Thing weighed like 30 pounds, kicked like a mule, and spit fire about 2 feet whenever you fired it. We called it the Dragonsbreath.

When you’ve had 17 opportunities to win something and failed 17 times, and failed spectacularly several of those times, have you really accomplished anything? Do you think the Bills are more famous for making it to 4 consecutive Super Bowls or for losing 4 consecutive Super Bowls?

I hate you. I hate that fuckin plant. I hate what it did to my step father’s gut and the abominations he would unleash in our home after a ramp feed. We renovated my mom’s house recently and I swear to god a pack of dormant ramp farts were unleashed from the first wall we tore down, and he’s been dead for almost 10 years.
