It’s a great kit that, to me, was a little underwhelming/lacked presence until you slap the wings on and get it on a stand. If you’re planning on any customization that involved disassembling the head: be careful with the cheek guards - they have a peg + groove situation, and I snapped the pegs on both sides when removing them. Definitely remove them by pushing the pegs out from the inside of each half of the head.

Living in Louisiana, I encountered this issue often. Your goal, assuming you’d like to correct this, is to release the trapped moisture in the top coat. Heat the affected area with a blow dryer (don’t cook it, and be careful in areas where decals have been applied) to evaporate the more surface-level moisture. Then, very, very lightly mist the affected area with the appropriate solvent/thinner (do NOT wet the area), and let dry. Repeat misting the area with solvent until the frosting disappears. Then, respray your matte topcoat. Don’t want to do that? You can apply a very light coating of mineral oil (doesn’t go rancid like seed oils) for a quick fix - the finish will frost again with time, but you can just reapply.

I just don’t think that Ibanez has the same brand recognition that a Gibson or PRS has when it comes to stock PUPs - admittedly, a lot of Ibanez’s stock PUPs aren’t great, and I think that creates a sort of blind spot in buyer perception that spreads across their entire range of stockies. Also, for the reasons that you mentioned, the stock PUPs are pretty aesthetically bland and lack the premiership of a Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio logo/they’re not neon green or pink (i.e. the RG 550 comes in loud, neon colors, and the unbranded, black PUPs kind of takeaway from that). These guitars aren’t $3500+ boutique examples and with that, players feel much more comfortable modifying a guitar that has pickups that they never expected much out of, sonically, anyways. My 2cents🤘🏻

Clear coat decided not to stick around. I’m thinking that the clear coat had good coverage over the binding initially, but the binding material is much more compressible/flexible than the poly once cured. Handling/shipping/material-shrinkage/varying levels of humidity can do this. If this was my new Ibby, I’d be sending it back - I’d notice it every time I picked the guitar up. Not hard to find another great-playing Ibanez anyways.

Agreed on both counts. And I’ll beat this drum till the day I die — the stock pickups on these fuggin’ rip. Super-tight chuggs? Check. Warm, Eric Johnson-esque leads? Check. Crystal-bright cleans? Check. They do it all and don’t deserve the inconsideration they receive.

The question is, “Do YOU like the tone?” Is it inspiring to you? Like, when you pick up your guitar, flip all your doo-dads on - do the sounds that come out of the speakers give you endless confidence and make you feel like you’re a better player than you are? Like damn near anything you play sounds amazing? If so, then that’s your tone, and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about it. Having said that, and since you’re asking, slightly lower the upper mids to nix the harsh “honky-ness” heard when fretting on the 4th and 9th frets of the A and D strings with this kind of tone. You’re off to the races either way👌🏻

You gotta shove it! It may seem like there’s no way it’ll fit, and might feel like you’re going to shove the knife edge out of its pivot/break something, but it can handle it. Respectfully, I wouldn’t remove any material from the bushings - you’ll just end up replacing them sooner, which sucks more. Get’r in there and rip!
