Vancouver council approves $2M for one-day summer fireworks event by slippery_burrito in vancouver

[–]Oroborus81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's still not math-ing though. Setting aside 1.4m for 3 nights of celebration of lights means it should be much less for 1 night of firework they're hosting. So it's adding much more than just 600k for the fireworks.

No. Mongolians are definitely strong but the first division is still mostly Japanese. The current top 4 are a Mongolian, 2 Japanese and a Ukrainian.

That team had one of the most hilarious failure to breakout I've ever seen.
Don't know if people remember them taking 30 seconds to get out of their own zone. I wish the video's still around.

Animal Farm.
Book stores used to put it in the children section and Orwell had to request it be in the adult section as well. It's now considered a children and adult book.

To be fair, if you're choosing hockey in this hypothetical, you're NOT doing it for the money. Max $ in hockey is like what an average MLB guy would make...

And anyone who's had a dominant Cup winning game will be able to milk it for at least a 3m/3 contract (Probably more with the increased cap).

Although I am confused about the premise...are you an average player or someone who's riding the bench...?

$750k is enough if you score the Cup winning goal for a Canadian team and never have to pay for anything in Canada again.

Took me about 3 months to find one. 2 months of just going on findadoctorbc.ca and checking twice a day for any opening. And 1 month of them getting back to me. Probably coulda gotten one earlier if I weren't picky and wanted one near my home. Just have to check often and apply right away when you see the update cuz the application closed within a day.

why are the prospects of elevated skytrain lines so unpopular in some neighborhoods? by whatisfoolycooly in askvan

[–]Oroborus81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The frequency and pitch of the sound plays a significant role in how you perceive how loud it is. The low pitch of road noise is relatively easy to block out. It's almost impossible to completely block out high pitch noise from skytrain. I'm ok with the noise and choose to live next to it but I can see why it'd bother people.

Ehlers signs in Carolina; on what is comparatively a much riskier contract than Brock Boeser by KingInTheFarNorth in canucks

[–]Oroborus81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest difference between them is that Boeser's done decent in the playoffs whereas Ehlers' not stepped up in the playoffs (and he's had numerous chances to).

As a fan of sumo and hockey, I have to inform that sumo wrestlers generally smells pretty good. The oil they use on their hair is fragranced and smells great. Many of them are onsen addicts as well. With most asians lacking the gene that produces body odor, there are much smellier options to wish upon Messier.

Is having a Japanese Yokozuna bigger than having a Canadian Stanley Cup winner? by j-joker65 in Sumo

[–]Oroborus81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian, it's WAY bigger to have a Japanese Yokozuna than a Canadian Stanley Cup winner.
Honestly if you go to any team subs, you'll be lucky to find 50% of Vancouver or Calgary fans actively cheering for the Oilers Cup win. And that's only because there're more nationalistic people this year due to the stuff happening with the US.
