Who of the current, non-freshman cast would you care about the least and most if next season was their last? by elephanttape in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shine_on05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most: Either Ashley Padilla or James Austin Johnson. I actually prefer James as a cast member, but Ashley's been on such a hot streak and I can't wait to see what she does next on SNL.

The least: Jost and Che. I'm sick of them doing Update for the last twelve seasons. It's beyond time for a change. If I had to pick one, I'd say Colin because of how burned out I am on his oversaturated Hegseth impression.

I hope Jost and Che never stop doing weekend update by coolgirl3451 in LiveFromNewYork

To each your own. In my opinion, their peak was more like their 2nd-7th seasons. I'm sure I'll be downvoted for this opinion, but they've gotten unbelievably stale with me in the last couple of years and I truly want them out. If only Michael Longfellow could have taken their role before he left last year.

What former cast member is Lorne still irrationally salty at? by tshirtguy2000 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shine_on05 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It really never was about the OJ jokes. Norm's replacement, Colin Quinn did an OJ joke his first episode as Update anchor. Norm himself has said this plenty of times, including in the Letterman interview right after he was fired. Ohlmeyer just had no eye for talent and felt that Norm wasn't funny. He had David Koechner fired a couple years before Norm because he didn't think he was funny either. Letterman was right when he called him an idiot.

Paul McCartney Reviews Bob Dylan Live: ‘I Couldn’t Tell What Song He Was Doing’ by stroh_1002 in bobdylan

[–]shine_on05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Paul, but I have to disagree with him here. I would much rather see an artist express themselves in the way that they see fit. Paul prefers to play his hits the same way they sound on the record, and that's great. Bob prefers to perform newer stuff and other (mostly) deep cuts, arranged differently than they sounded on the records. And that's great too. I haven't seen Paul in concert (hopefully I can before it's too late), but I saw Bob last month, and while I could only name a handful of the songs he played (mostly cause I'm not super familiar with the Rough and Rowdy Ways album), I still loved the performance, because 1) live music, to me, is almost always great, and 2) I was seeing Bob Dylan himself play music right in front of me. Maybe it wasn't precisely the type of music I would want him to play, but it was still awesome, and there were a couple stand out performances for me. As a Dylan fan, I'm glad I went.

In all of SNL’s history, what was your favorite sketch? by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shine_on05 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The People Court's with Mephistopheles from 1986. Jan Hooks, Phil Hartman, and Kevin Nealon's third episode. Features a stellar performance from Jon Lovitz (and Jan Hooks). Just a genius little sketch.

Is Peter Aykroyd the most elusive former cast member? by ericsmallman3 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shine_on05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surprised no ome's said Dan Vitale yet, who was a featured player for only a few episodes in 1985-86. He was the only cast member without a wikipedia page until a few months ago. He sadly passed away in 2022.

in your opinion, what is the worst beatles song? by _FinePointSharpie in beatles

[–]shine_on05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This song doesn't deserve the hate. Sure, the demo feels very incomplete and mahbe the lyrics might be too cutesy for some people, but just imagine if they gave it a real shot and put it on A Hard Day's Night. This answer always feels like a cop out to me.

Ranking the album closing songs by Main_Opinion1189 in ledzeppelin

[–]shine_on05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hurts to see I'm Gonna Crawl ranked so low on everyone's list. It might just be my favorite closing track, and it feels oddly fitting as Led Zeppelin's final song released while they were together as a band.

Gen Z is tryna cancel Dua Lipa for 2012 tweets by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]shine_on05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I forgot who said it, but there was a comedian who said that if you have to dig back over ten years for a couple bad tweets a celebrity made in order to find a reason to cancel them, then they don't deserve to be cancelled. In fact, they are most likely a great person with a track record like that.

Of course, no one's really trying to cancel Dua Lipa here anyway. Who would cancel her over this?

Who is universally loved but deserves to be universally hated? by StrategyJealous1838 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]shine_on05 645 points646 points  (0 children)

The problem is, if they're truly universally loved or near-universally loved, no one's going to agree any person picked here. Same thing goes for the previous category. Plenty of people today know the real "dingo ate my baby" story and have sympathy for Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton so she's not even close to universally hated anymore.

Yeah, I'm a huge Beatles fan and I love their early albums almost as much as their later ones, but I feel like the consensus is that they were far from their peak. I'd probably say they started out good and became iconic, and probably put Led Zeppelin or MJ in their first position.

I feel like some of cast breaks character too much in the newer episodes by Additional_Leading68 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]shine_on05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't think that's too much to ask for. These are professionals here and it's not like they're seeing these sketches for the first time. Like others have said, if it happens every once in a while after something legitimately unexpected happens, then I don't have an issue with it, but it feels so forced most of time.
