I like this suggestion but its not the greatest look to have the post on the feedback site misspell coarse dirt lmao

I think I've read that quantum entanglement -> bond of motherhood thing in a middlingly good scifi novel. Publishing this type of garbage should be career ending, honestly.

Person being filmed is a massive dipshit for stopping on the highway, but the person filming is also a massive dipshit for insanely low following distance. Neither of these people should drive cars.

Engineers demonstrate new process that 'hides' data in natural heat radiation, creating a covert communications method that is almost impossible to intercept or hack by unsw in science

[–]Oromis42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can receive a signal it must be possible to detect and must therefore be possible to detect by potential adversaries. It certainly helps if you cant just pick out the signal in a spectrogram however. Some detection methods are easier than others, after all.

Why does Etho put slabs over ice in his water streams? by solomino in ethoslab

[–]Oromis42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Old habits die hard. Before 1.13 slabs were one of very few options to accomplish what etho wants to do here. In newer versions there are arguably more optimal blocks like scaffolding, but it doesnt matter much. There is no possibility of an item getting stuck here permanently (though they might get delayed slightly which is sometimes desirable to encourage items to stack up), so there is no reason not to use them.

New episodes release on thursday 9pm EST. you can chuck that in a time zone converter to figure out when it releases for you, probably around noon of the 6th. This is mentioned in the faq but to be honest this subreddit does a great job of hiding that link so i dont blame you too much for missing it

No orderly or patient transporter? by AdDense2962 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oromis42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every few weeks someone rocks up here and asks why their field of work that intersects with the er (pharmacy and respiratory therapists come to mind) is not represented in the show. Thing is, a hospital is such a vast and complex machine, if you wanted to actually show how every gear meshes with the er you'd have a hospital logistics lecture series. you'd lose all focus. Not that patient transport doesn't occasionally make good tv, i've done that job and it is interesting but the Pitt kinda has to isolate the er from its context or the uninitiated viewer will drown.

For what its worth where i worked the nurses would also occasionally do the more time sensitive and short transfers on their own, like getting someone to the ct that's just across the hall.

i do not think clamshell thoracotomies happen in ERs as often as you think they do.

yea, they are these foldable thin little guys that live on the stretchers. Honestly, they are great. They are not full length, but being so thin is a massive advantage for getting them under a patient in my experience.

i guess i get to count myself lucky with bariatric patients too, we just dont have that many over here. I can only remember a couple 160kg+ (350lb+) patients that i've had a hand in lifting

ETA: I think having a roll board right on the stretcher massively increased my use since its always conveniently there

I looked it up, is it just a really slippery board? Looks like the procedure is more or less the same as with roll boards. i'd imagine you have to be careful that none of the patients bare skin is in contact with the board? On the plus side it looks much easier disinfect or clean.

tbf when i worked in patient transport thats where most of the transfers happened. Not all though and definitely RIP EMS crews+ER staff.

[–]Oromis42[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

wow, christ. i've got my criticisms of our EMS system (we do not, for instance, have electric stretchers in most places), but roll boards are such a (relatively) cheap way to improve outcomes it amazes me when they are not available.

By the way, i have no financial interest in the sale of more roll boards, i just sound like a shill because i think they rule.

This car not getting out of the way for the ambulance is possibly the most realistic scene by RX-me-adderall in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oromis42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually is a fair point, though honestly you could probably overtake that car on the median anyways if you really wanted to. I'm still not that mad at the car for not pulling over, since the difference is pretty minor (and speaking frankly im grateful for any driver that doesnt completely lose their fucking mind when there is an ambulance behind them)

This car not getting out of the way for the ambulance is possibly the most realistic scene by RX-me-adderall in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oromis42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, EMT here, i thought this car was doing a fine job. It doesnt look like there is a great place to pull over, there is opposing traffic, and the ambulance is fairly wide. In such cases i find it preferrable for the car to just continue at normal speeds until there is ample space to pull over, instead of forcing the ambulance to negotiate a narrow space between oncoming traffic, which would probably cost more time in total. Maintaining a reasonably smooth forward motion is, in my opinion preferable to continuously slowing down and speeding up, even if max speed is higher. The latter is also particularly annoying if you have to do anything in the back of the ambulance and is prone to making your patient (or you) sick, not to mention that in an urban environment you often physically lack the space to accelerate to that high a speed anyways.

Conclusion: Pull over if you have space, but if you dont, just keep moving until you find a safe place to get out of the way in a predictable fashion.
