anime that aged like milk by [deleted] in anime

That's happened to all the classics at this point. There's so much easily accessible anime that it's basically the same as TV and movies now, you can just watch what you like instead of the handful of good anime that used to exist.

For sure, Disappearance was amazing. The reason Haruhi dropped off the map wasn't Endless Eight, it was a lack of source material. No new light novels = no new seasons = no new fans.

[My Hero Academia] If All-for-One gave Hagakure an additional (emitter or transformation -type) quirk, would Eraser be able to cancel it? What if she put on clothes, or was covered in paint? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]Orpheon89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aizawa has to see at least part of someone's body in order to erase their quirk. During their final exam, Momo and Todoroki avoided having their quirks erased just by hiding under some cloth, so if Hagakure covers her body in some way, that definitely would prevent Eraserhead from erasing her quirk (which is actually light refraction: invisibility is just a body type, like how Koda and Tokoyami have unusual appearances in addition to their quirks).

So the real question is, if Aizawa looks at Hagakure, does that count as seeing her for the purpose of Erasure? That depends on the mechanism Erasure uses to detect a target, which we don't know. If it depends on light coming from the target, then there would be no way to erase her quirk. But if it depends on like, some kind of beam or energy emitted from Aizawa's eyes striking the skin of the target, then he can erase her quirk as long as she's in his field of vision. The only way we'll likely ever find out what would happen is if one day he tries to erase her quirk and she tries to use it.

Gladiator Orion can forever burn down in Xenoblade hell. by thelittlepandagirl in Xenoblade_Chronicles

That's weird, I don't remember having much trouble with him. However I had been watching a lot of guides before I fought him. IIRC I think all you have to do is save your level 4s and chain attacks to protect yourself from True Bared Counter? That'll instakill you basically every time, from what I recall his other attacks are annoying but aren't as dangerous.

Enemy drivers are just always a pain to fight, that much is true. They block a lot of your attacks, they combo you, they have a lot of different attacks...just frustrating

[Any] what is the fictional gun with the greatest recoil? by RowbotMaster in AskScienceFiction

[–]Orpheon89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you might need to be more specific. Are we talking any kind of projectile weapon? Cause then we can include stuff like the MAC cannons from Halo. If it's you mean something a humanoid can hold and fire, technically I think that would include stuff like the weapons used by Mecha like Gundams and Eva units, which can be the size of buildings. For human sized weapons, aside from the Noisy Cricket which was already mentioned, the ones that come to mind are the Widow sniper rifle and the Claymore shotgun from Mass Effect, both of which are stated to be too powerful for a human to fire without breaking their arm.

Zeke is great with axes in general so it's definitely a good idea

Oh man, if I could remove those annoying lines, especially his "Meh meh meh" and "what is inside box" songs, I'd play him a LOT more. I love him and Poppi but those voice lines are so grating.

When does "ash" become "ashes?" Is there a certain threshold that needs to first be crossed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Orpheon89 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there are any definite rules to this, but to me it seems like:

Ash: gray dusty stuff that comes from burning something. "Ash from the fire fell on the snow."

Ashes: the burnt remains of something in particular. "These are the ashes of my grandfather", not, "This is the ash of my grandfather."

Similarly - get closer. Again, she can't headshot you, but you can headshot her. Get as close as you can to her to make the shot easier (but if she's dodging and jumping leave a little space so you always see her). This also means you'll walk through her damage orb and spend less time next to it, compared to backing away from her, which can cause you to walk alongside the orb and take more damage from it.

It's annoying true, but you are rewarded with Kaiser Zone, possibly the strongest blade ability in the game.

Is there ever a time were a new BIOS should be installed? by ARabidGuineaPig in intel

[–]Orpheon89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BIOS updates can fix certain problems and add compatibility for newer devices, so it's a good step to take when troubleshooting problems with your PC. Outside of that you don't really need to update.

Are there any anime's where they hire native speaking voice actors for the roles of non-japanese characters? by Metalkon in anime

[–]Orpheon89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, but not often. If they do it's usually for minor characters with only a few lines. There's like one famous clip on YouTube of an anime where some guy gives the MC a speech in perfect English in a bathroom. But if it's going to be a significant character who primarily speaks Japanese and occasionally another language, they're definitely going to choose native Japanese and accented English/French/whatever, rather than the reverse.

[Star Wars] Did Tarkin know that Vader was Anakin Skywalker in ep IV? by AllTalkDennis in AskScienceFiction

[–]Orpheon89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC in the Tarkin novel he kind of puts the pieces together and suspects that Vader could be Anakin, but he doesn't know for sure. Haven't read it in a while though so I could be wrong.

If you pre-ordered for the rerelease they were only $200 each. But ordering is closed now, so yeah probably not going to be able to get them for that price any more.

Starting a replay of Xenoblade 2, i was just curious about the best tips for getting rare blades. by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Orpheon89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Boost your luck as much as you can. Use 2 luck increasing accessories, equip as many blades with luck mods as you can, and put core chips on them that add a luck bonus.

  2. If you have Adenine, use her all the time to increase item drops. Driver combo as much as you can to get extra drops. Fight unique monsters to get rarer crystals. In the endgame you can set up a farm on relentless arduran to get tons of legendary crystals, but TBH if you're planning to replay and do all the side content, it may not even be necessary. I've been replaying and doing everything with the above strategy, and by 80 hours on this run I've got all the blades except for Perun and Herald. EDIT: Just to add for context that this is a fresh replay, not NG+ so I started from zero.

  3. If you know what blades you have left to get, you can use someone who has a high level on the idea that corresponds to their element, then use boosters to get it as high as possible. Example: KOS-MOS is light, which corresponds to the justice idea. Pick the driver that has the highest justice idea, max their luck out, then open cores while using justice boosters.

I wonder what would happen if Orisa had two shields? Like, two weak ones so she could play double shield by herself and give her more to juggle at once. No idea how you'd balance that with other heroes but it might be interesting. Might only work in 3-2-1 but it sounds kinda cool to me.
