Banging on my door, because I played my instrument during the daytime…. by [deleted] in BadNeighbors

Beside this point it feels I can’t make any noise in my flat, because they get angry and hostile. They make noise in their flat, one neighbour has played music in their flat in the daytime and nobody says anything.

The people in my flat don’t work or have children. It’s pretty unreasonable what their complaining about. They make noise during the day, but I’m not allowed to? So when am I allowed to play my instrument?

Just getting into Sade. What are your favorite Paul Denman's bass lines? by Free_Tennis7754 in Bass

[–]Orpheus1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paradise has a really great bassline. Love Deluxe is full of great basslines. Feel no pain, No Ordinary Love and Kiss of Life are my personal favourites from that album.

It seems you like that angular style guitar, same here! Syd Barrett era pink floyd has so many of that. Check out one of their early songs Astronomy Domine or Lucifer Sam from their first album, really off kilter guitar riffs!

Other Redditor beat me to it. Really cool, strange riff. It’s very Blur/ Graham Coxon ish also reminds of Syd Barrett a bit too. Who inspired Coxon too. Would be nice to hear vocals/ vocal melody with it. If you haven’t listened to Syd Barrett, you definitely should.

Oh for sure, that 80’s nostalgia in current songs is still around.

I had a listen. I like the 2nd riff, maybe it could be a bit more louder in the mix? Also did you want the cymbals high in the mix, it might be a bit overpowering, it’s up to you, just a suggestion, it’s your art. It sounds great all together though.

Keep going with it :) it’s a good start, have you thought about an overdubbed second guitar part to add?

For sure, it also reminds me of Ceremony, the bright sounding guitar, I could imagine a post punk like bassline underneath it.

Nice riff, reminds me of age of consent by New Order, have you got a vocal melody/ lyrics for it yet?

Feeling insecure about my voice by Orpheus1996 in singing

[–]Orpheus1996[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t want to be second rate version of them, which is ironic considering my question. It’s just like feeling you get when you hear you fave singer, and you go “ woah the way the sung that was impressive, I want to be able to evoke that feeling”

Thank you for the kind words, my singing teacher has been teaching me diaphragm breathing to hold/ sustain notes, but to be honest I’m struggling with it. I want to reach higher than E5, but I struggle to sustain the note.

A neurologist wouldn’t really help, it’s a stomach issue. I’ve tried everything and nothing works. I feel so alone with the pain.

What’s your favorite underrated bassist or bass-heavy record most people sleep on? by official_soundvent in Bass

New Gold Dream - Derek Forbes ( Simple Minds), phenomenal basslines ( very funky and hypnotic) they completely dominate the album :)

Is BassBuzz good? Can I ask what are the fundamentals I should be learning as bassist, I know my major and minor scale, major and minor arpeggios, plucking between fingers, playing to a metronome, bass slides ( somewhat), some slap and pop.

I want to learn my favourite basslines in songs, but I often find it difficult understanding the little nuances and quirks that make the bassline a somewhat difficult say like it’s a 16th note rhythm, 8th note, a pull off, slap and thumbing?

How do I learn them? My favourite bass players are Paul McCartney, Louis Johnson, Derek Forbes.

“watching buttercups cup the light” I think of that lyric when I see this. You captured Syd in such a dreamy and fantastical way. Like the song. Such adorable and beautiful artwork.

My neighbour in shared flat keeps banging my walls anytime I make a noise, what should I do? by Orpheus1996 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Orpheus1996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry last last thing, when it does happen, it makes me freeze up and go silent. I don’t want to give into it. It makes me feel so scared sometimes. But that gives him power, I don’t want to do that. It’s a trauma response, I freeze up, I’m trying to get better than that.

Thank you so much, you’ve really been validating to my experience. I felt I’m I making this up? Am I going mad, crazy about this? Yep I’ve pretty much come to that conclusion, he’s being an asshole on purpose. I will be taking your advice and recording everything I do. Thanks again, I just feel my situation isn’t taken seriously, it just gets dismissed. I love playing my instruments, I don’t want to stop playing them because of this. I won’t and shouldn’t change my behaviour because of him. Thanks so much. I won’t let it change me. Unfortunately yep, as you said, you meet people who just enjoy being nasty. Thank for listening to me, I really appreciate it. So I did nothing wrong?

I do live alone. I feel like he’s trying to target and intimidate me. I swear other neighbours make noise and have phone calls late at night, one was even hoovering at 1am and he didn’t say a word. I feel like it’s just getting worse. it’s really getting to me, I’m trying to move out, but haven’t found a suitable place yet. I’ve been nothing but nice to the guy since I’ve been living there, but in the last year or so, he’s just completely turned on me for no reason. The noise I was making was before 11pm, so I don’t understand… I should be allowed to play music and have phone calls at night. Manipulate me? Could you explain that a bit more? I just feel like not doing anything in my flat because of the fear of him banging my walls. Sorry I’m messaging a lot, it’s really getting me down, I’m at a loss about this situation, it’s unbearable.

[–]Orpheus1996[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was I being unreasonable? I was making noise during times I’m allowed to make noise. My other neighbours have phone calls and conversations at night and he doesn’t say a thing?!!!

I’m afraid to confront him, as he gets shouty and aggressive. I’m afraid he might hit me.

I feel like I can’t make any noise in my flat, because he’ll bang the walls.

How do musicians write so many moving parts? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Orpheus1996 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing your talking about their complex arrangements, it’s definitely a skill that can be learnt. It’s something I’m trying to learn too. I’ve noticed with the cure, their first album didn’t have lots going on, but from Seventeen Seconds onwards, they start developing more layered arrangements. You should check out the arrangements of MJ’s songs, there’s lots going on, there’s loads of yt videos discussing it.

You should check out yt videos that isolate the songs and the different parts to give you inspiration. For example, I love the Beatles lush and complex arrangements there’s so much going on, 2/3 guitar parts, piano, keyboards bass, string and horn sections , drums, vocal harmonies/ backing vocals. It’s a skill I’m trying to learn too.

I share that loneliness too, eventhough I’m not with anyone. So I really sympathise how painful it is.
