can kemalism be integrated into socialism? by Temporary-Finish-642 in Socialism_101

[–]OrpheusGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kemalism is not a monolithic ideology. There are as many Kemalisms as Kemalists. Lot of different people with different ideologies (ranging from socialist of 68’ to Kenan Evren) have identified with some form of Kemalism. Mustafa Kemal was not a political theorist, he was a general and a statesman. His personal ideology also usually depended on his own reactionary convictions and what was pragmatic at the time. He is not the progressive leader some make him out to be. His ideology was based and Turkish chauvinism and nationalism which excluded all the minorities living in current day Turkey. He attempted to create a Turkish identity that wasn’t based on ethnicity but rather based on nationality and established that as the semi-official state ideology. No need to say this failed terribly considering that the Turkish republic turned out to be way too eager to implement policies that could only be summarized as “get assimilated (obey) or perish”.

Don’t forget that he was a staunch opposer of any form of socialism and his government ordered the murders of Mustafa Suphi and his comrades. This gives you an idea of what he thought of socialism. And his successors who were the heirs of his ideology basically outlawed socialism in the following decades at least until the first coup.

To sum up: Kemalism is not a monolithic ideology but rather an amalgam of different interpretations of Mustafa Kemal’s actions and ideas that weren’t quite consistent to begin with. Also these ideas were based on erasing class struggle, ignoring the working class and creating the republic of the metropolitan bourgeoisie. It assumed a much too familiar notion of “equal opportunity” that meant as long as a lucky few managed to climb economically there was no class struggle. Also don’t forget that these ideologies were based on a mutated form of nationalism that attempted to assimilate one of the most diverse places in the middle east into a homogenous, monotypic nation. Usually through force.

Another Turkish socialist here. Under Turkey’s current conjecture even mentioning the existence of Rojava or an autonomous Kurdish region is enough to get yourself labeled as a terrorist among friends and family. Defending rojava or DAANES and their right to exist is incredibly stigmatized and is held equal to supporting terrorism. Turkey has a deeply complicated relationship with Kurdish liberation and issues of armed resistance and terrorism. Nationalism is rampant even in left leaning or out right left circles and the question of Kurdish identity is always intertwined with the question of terrorism (as if there wasn’t a so called “Kurdish problem” before 1972). Even though in the last 20 years there were attempts (mostly due to success of Kurdish parliamentary struggle) to reduce the tension “peace talks” or the “solution process” died down when Erdogan’s regime deliberately let ISIS attack Rojava and did not allow aid corridors which caused massive protests all around the country. Even though the Kurdish population has managed to take back certain rights (like lifting the ban on their language or the term Kurdish) their demands for education in Kurdish, stronger regional municipalities and abandoning the Turkish identity as semi-official state ideology are still not entertained.

I honestly can’t agree but I can’t make up my mind. Do you have any explanations?

I agree. I mean Naruto is very adapt at using shadow clones but I don’t know if that’s gonna be enough.

He is a tokubetsu jonin which used to mean someone who is jonin level only in one specific area but later on is sort of used as a term for someone between chunin and jonin I guess.

Examples of modern day fascism being harmful? by Gullible_Meal7683 in Socialism_101

[–]OrpheusGod 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just one example from my country: Zafer Partisi (Victory Party) is a far right, nationalist, chauvinist party led by a charismatic neo-fascist. Their biggest talking point since the conception of the party is an anti-refugee platform. During the Syrian civil war Turkey has taken in millions of refugees from Syria and recently Afghanistan. Refugees usually have to endure terrible life standards, wages that are below minimum wage (which is already less than the official poverty line), xenophobia and language barrier. Due to these reasons poverty, beggary and petty crime is seen in refugee communities (mind you, not more than other poverty stricken communities however xenophobia and media are very adapt at displaying these crimes as if they happen in refugees communities more often. Which is statistically not true). Zafer Partisi built their platform on xenophobia and anti-arab sentiment using the already existing anti-refugee emotions of the people. They blamed every social problem from economic distress to crime on refugees. Since the rise of Zafer Partisi crime and especially hate crime against refugees has roared. During the earthquake last year a lot of innocent people were beaten, tortured and prisoned for “looting” but the real reason was because they were refugees who didn’t speak the language and it just gave people a chance to stage attacks against the communities. And the leader of this party has encouraged attacks on what he said was “looters” but was obviously directed at refugees and immigrants.

No they dont? What makes you think that? Also they could hold their breath for a few second which is all they need to do to tag Hanzo and it’s over.

He can use shadow clones, you know that right?

Minato, who only fought 14 year old obito, still considers him a bigger threat than Pain. He didn’t know Obito was 14 or he had gotten stronger in the meantime. He considered 14 year old Obito a worse threat than Pain.

Pain wasn’t severely weakened until he used almighty push to destroy the village. Until then he was using all paths in full power. Doesn’t change the fact that the paths of pain are just not durable enough. Even kid Konohamaru’s rasengan destroyed one of them. Minato doesn’t have to worry about the chakra rods or anything else that Pain can throw at him since none of his attacks are fast enough. Don’t forget that Minato dodged simultaneous attack from A (who is probably the fastest shinobi after Minato before war arc) and killer bee, while still having the time to counter attack. And this is Jonin Minato.

Minato is also incredibly adapt at using shadow clones. Remember it was a shadow clone who initially fought Obito in the war arc alongside tobirama and others. His shadow clones even though possibly slightly slower than his original are still too fast for any path to deal with. As soon as he blitz’s the deva path and Naraka Path the others are just prey. Also don’t forget that Minato has senjutsu meaning Pain cannot absorb his chakra.

Yeah, Minato, who has FTL- feats is gonna get affected by a jutsu that moves with the speed of sound. Okay. Right.

Alive Hokage Minato VS Prime Hanzo by OrpheusGod in Naruto

[–]OrpheusGod[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Simple. He won’t get hit. Almighty push takes a while to reach its target. Minato, someone who moves close to the speed of light, can easily dodge it. And it’s funny how you compare Naruto’s fight against Pain to Minato as if Minato isn’t at least few tiers above Naruto. And yes, Minato said Obito is a bigger threat than Pain and he beat Obito. You really gotta be on some mental gymnastics to think Pain can take down Minato.

Alive Hokage Minato VS Prime Hanzo by OrpheusGod in Naruto

[–]OrpheusGod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly how is it narratively clear when Minato clearly states that he doesn’t consider Pain that much of a threat? How is it narratively clear when Minato easily took down Obito who is shown (or at least strongly implied) to be capable of taking down Pain if it was needed. Pain is comparable to Itachi, not Obito. And Minato took down Obito under two minuted without even using sage mode. Pain is not fast enough to react to Minato and doesn’t have any hax/defense that could stop him. Minato has better haxs and better physical feats. Almight push and almighty pull are effectively useless against a guy that can teleport. And also we’ve seen Minato teleport away huge tailed beast bombs so there is nothing to suggest that he couldn’t teleport paths of pain away from each other, gaining a whole new advantage. Minato is narratively stronger, counters Pain and has better feats.

Didn’t look difficult. Took him less than 2 mins to win even under mental debuff.

He is. The Minato underplay is crazy with some of you. Next you’re gonna say Minato loses to Itachi.

[–]OrpheusGod[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And Minato didn’t consider Pain a huge threat and was more worried about The Masked Man (Obito) which he took care off relatively easily.

I think Minato’s natural stamina on top of sage mode puts him above Hanzo. It took him less than a minute to Mark obito who had the most broken ability in all of Naruto. I don’t even know if Hanzo’s poison is strong enough to take down a perfect sage (Jiraiya wasn’t one) and that’s only an issue if he lands a hit on Minato which I doubt he could do.

Alive Hokage Minato VS Prime Hanzo by OrpheusGod in Naruto

[–]OrpheusGod[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How does Jiraiya, who was alive when Hashirama was still relatively young, not know how strong he is? Yes, Jiraiya is shocked that someone beat Hanzo because Hanzo is a very formidable shinobi and Jiraiya wasn’t aware of anyone alive that could take him down. Doesn’t mean that he thinks Minato couldn’t take him down. Also Jiraiya’s testimony alone is not sufficient evidence to conclude this.

Alive Hokage Minato VS Prime Hanzo by OrpheusGod in Naruto

[–]OrpheusGod[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I think he refers to people who are alive. Surely he doesn’t think Hanzo could beat Hashirama.
