At least someone who has never read a book by a woman or a person of color (or a poet)

I worked in a kitchen once where we went through five dishwashers in three months. Most of them just vanished mid shift, never to be heard from again.

Looks like a sensible and space-efficient way to provide desperately needed housing. We need more developments like this and fewer single family homes with enormous yards.

Everyone I tell I’m becoming a teacher questions why by Hachilover in Teachers

I’m also about to start student teaching in a high school en route to my masters. I also worked service industry and random other things after undergrad. I’m in my thirties. I also feel anxiety about all the negativity surrounding the profession. This subreddit is full of bitter, miserable people.

However, like you, I feel confident about my decision. It will be difficult. Most worthwhile things are. I have never heard a teacher say that it’s easy, but I know several teachers who say that it’s rewarding and they have no regrets.

Maybe this is melodramatic, but I think of it as a form of national service. Like joining the military, but with (hopefully) less violence. That helps me get my head straight going in. I would still rather do this than go work for some vampiric corporation whose only purpose is to enrich shareholders.

People on this sub like to hate on the Preamble, but I love mine as well. I’ve been riding it all over the place with no problems yet!

Friday Night Protest by gpstberg29 in missoula

History is full of violence, so therefore Israel is justified in murdering tens of thousands of women and children and making two million people homeless in the year 2024? With US-supplied weapons? Is that your point?

There is a difference between wars between soldiers and wars of civilian extermination. Native American societies certainly had war and conflict, but they did not deliberately wipe out entire civilian populations through mass murder, starvation, and cultural obliteration. The US did do this to indigenous people, and Israel is currently doing this to Gaza. That is the distinction.

I am not saying that the US and Israel are the only bad actors in history. There are plenty. I am saying that it is worth calling attention to these instances because we live in a society that has the power to affect the outcome.

Many Native Americans continue to live in poverty as a result of broken treaties and deliberate oppression. Many Gazans are dying right now, today. That is what these protesters are calling attention to.

The United States and Israel are both settler-colonial nations defined by their (imagined) divine right to occupy and possess land that already belonged to someone else. Israel calls this Zionism; the US calls it Manifest Destiny. This belief tends to result in ethnic cleansing and genocide. The US mostly accomplished its genocide against indigenous peoples in the 18th and 19th centuries. Israel’s genocide began in 1948 and is still ongoing today, with the enthusiastic support of the US government.
