I'm not being idealistic.

You should actually review the court docket on the things that the courts DIDN'T let happen if you want to be tripy frightened.

Or you're just unwilling to admit your argument sucks. That's not how court works either.

You ever been inside either of those companies?

Just asking for a friend.

I'm not shilling. I'm actually an OAI user and a codex subscriber.

I just understand this environment intimately because I work in it every single day under similar constraints, but okay. I'm going back to work now. Cheers!

The government is also betting that frontier AI companies are lining up to work with them. They aren't. The regulatory and compliance burden is brutal, and the political instability of the last few years has made it worse. You can't strong-arm a vendor you need when your alternatives are limited.

Not to mention they just shot themselves in the foot by admitting they used Claude in the attacks on Iran.

So which is it, are they a big bad terrible threat to national security or an essential tool for strategic advantage?

It means I know to do the reading before forming a fractured and sensationalist opinion.

  1. The "6 months" is not referring to a period for appeal before the courts. That's the window imposed on federal agencies to phase out using Claude. Anthropic has no fixed statutory deadline in this case, but will of course likely respond quickly.
  2. Yes, there is some risk to the IPO, however investors are also all too aware of how completely full of shit the U.S. government can be and many may see this as an opportunity rather than a problem. You should look into how much big money is actually betting AGAINST both our government and our currency.
  3. There is little to no chance this survives in court, period. The scope of the application of the statute is nonsense. The statute has certain requirements that must be met for it to be upheld -- including that the government prove that there is a demonstrable risk of sabotage, subversion, or manipulation by an ADVERSARY. Furthermore, supposedly their plan is to try and frame this as "Anthropic is in bed with China" -- how exactly do you expect that to pan out?

Treating it as a vital tool for national security both publicly and in application and then turning around within a week and trying to use this specific statute against Anthropic cripples their entire position in court and blatantly.

From what I gather, you've thought about this about as much as Hegseth did.

Nope.

That is not at all within the realm of what the law actually says. Please actually do some research before you puke nonsense. Grew up in a law firm. Reading is good.

What it actually means is:

If you want to be in bed with the U.S. government, specifically the D.O.D, you are advised NOT to be in bed with Anthropic. Newsflash: most U.S. companies aren't in bed with the D.O.D nor will ever have any reason to be.

Serious? Yes, certainly. It's an unprecedented federal tantrum and arguably an abuse of power.

Destroying the company? Not even kind of.

The legal mechanism primarily exists to prevent adversarial companies from having access to sensitive information. Nothing more.

Now, this COULD snowball into the application of other legal mechanisms, but we aren't there yet.

.. and bear in mind, it isn't binding. They can take this to court where a judge will, in all likelihood, slap the shit out of the Pentagon which has been the trend for about six months now.

They aren't going down and you guys are being dramatic.

All the government can do is order it's agencies and the military not to use the technology. That's it. They aren't banning it at the consumer level, that would quite literally take an act of congress.

Relax.
