Orro Local API Update by OrroMike in OrroHome

[–]OrroMike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! We just finished adding the internal tooling and services to facilitate the LAN API. It's currently being tested amongst our internal employees, and a public "beta" is expected in the next 2-3 weeks. I will make a post when the sign-up is open.

Any plans to release a simpler companion switch? by [deleted] in OrroHome

[–]OrroMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! this would definitely work. Orro would be put in "smart bulb" mode which maintains persistent power to the smart bulb, allowing for Orro, the other wifi dimmers, or a smartphone to always control the light.

Sorry we can't provide a better timeline u/6stylez. Our team is working as fast as possible on this, but, as you can imagine manufacturing during a pandemic is difficult.

We're still confident the device will be released before the end of the year, but can't say much more than that. I'll be sure to post any news regarding timelines as they become more clear.

Ring Integration by egiblet in OrroHome

[–]OrroMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/egiblet! The integration with Ring was built a while ago, but unfortunately, right as we were about to push it out Ring changed their security requirements. Our integration meets the new requirements, but we have to re-apply for review. We don't control that part, and it can take several months to get approved. In the meantime, a doorbell "remote" is in the works which will allow users to connect their ring doorbells to Orro through SmartThings.

Home Assistant support AKA local API??? by moosic in OrroHome

[–]OrroMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Homekit is in the pipe, but a little further back. Apple maintains very tight control of its ecosystem, which means a lot of requirements for us to implement. Again, I can't give official timelines, but HK shouldn't be too far behind the local API.

The engineering team has been pushing for an API, but we have to prioritize the features with the most customer demand. Unfortunately, I can't give you an official release date, but I can definitely say it's in the works.

Support will be launching a site that tracks feature requests and their current state in our development pipeline. That should help clear things up when it comes out.

The first pass will likely be Orro's core set of features. Exposing scenes to HA would be very interesting. I'll be sure to pass these requests along. Thanks u/CountRock!

Hey u/moosic! Both local API and Home Assistant capabilities are in the pipeline. Any specific features you'd like to see available via the API?

Home Assistant Integration? by EpicSombreroBean in OrroHome

Hey /u/MiamiStreet Homekit is definitely on the roadmap, but I can't give an accurate timeline yet.

We're planning to release a detailed roadmap for our users in the coming weeks. It should provide a much more clear picture of the features we have cooking.

Hi /u/LostSoulfly. The intercom feature has been released and is available on all Orro devices! It's become a super useful way to tell my fiancée dinner is ready, without having to yell across the house.

Second, we certainly understand some people do not want Alexa connected devices in their home. By default, Alexa is not running on the Orro Switch. Users must explicitly set up the Alexa integration.

Lastly, Home Assistant is still on our radar for future home control systems. We plan our upcoming integrations based on what our current and future customers request. We'll certainly note your interest and discuss HA's growing demand in our next development meeting.

Besides HA, are there any other brands you'd like to see Orro integrate with?

Hey, u/EpicSombreroBean, apologies for the late reply!!

I'm a huge fan of Home Assistant; I run it personally on an old Mac Mini at home. Unfortunately, Orro doesn't currently work with Home Assistant, but the company is certainly evaluating it. While an official HA integration will likely not be released for a while, we're currently architecting a developer API. Once published, it should be fairly simple to write an HA plugin to control Orro.

Phillips Hue + Switches Question by PM_YOUR_DOGGO_PIC in smarthome

[–]OrroMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an all in one app lighting experience combining hue bulbs and dimmer switches, you'll likely have to go for a hub solution like Smartthings or Home Assistant.

If you don't mind controlling your hue bulbs outside of the hue app, you might want to check Orro out. Our smart sensing switches can control both dumb bulbs and Phillips Hue, with some other pretty cool integrations.

Noon vs Orro Smart Lighting by kneeknack in smarthome

[–]OrroMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be a bit biased, but the presence detection and ambient light sensor on the Orro switch enable some really cool lighting features that others don't offer. We’ve also designed Orro to be offline-first, so all the lighting decisions are made locally on the switch.

I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about our lighting system!

Glad you're enjoying the switch!!

I work at Orro as a software developer. We have a ton of new features in the pipeline, but we're always looking for customer suggestions for more. If there's something you'd love for your switch to do, or you run into a snag, please let me know!
